Escape from Duckov doesn't do anything new, and that's okay. The graphics are charming but pedestrian - and that's okay. The sound design is almost nonexistent - which isn't too okay but would be an easy area for the devs to improve on. But the gameplay? It's dialed in! What looks like a parody of gritty extraction shooters plays out like the perfect example of the genre. And whereas these games are often cruel and brutal, Duckov is solely a single-player game, so it's paced perfectly for casual play. There's a clear path to progression and a terrific loop that keeps you developing your base -> upgrading your character -> exploring, fighting, and questing. It's a clean, well-implemented design from a small team giving you big genre gameplay at a budget indie-game price ... This is a fun one.

A very elegant collection of antisocial mechanics for breaking things, sneaking around, shooting guns and beating people up, wrapped up in the roguelike format promised in the title. The tuning is really enjoyable: The different character types have some nice built-in tools for navigating the world, the items and perks give every run a unique feel, and the mechanics combine in chaotic ways. It's got the secret sauce that makes a roguelike so enjoyable run after run.

An excellent low-stress crafting game with charming hand-drawn art. You manage a small potion shop, with a garden to grow ingredients and a line of customers every day that you can profit from, trade, and haggle with. Brewing the potions themselves is a kind of map-exploration minigame - the use of different ingredients moves your potion to different parts of the map, unlocking new potential effects or experience. Once you've earned enough money you can begin building more complex alchemical equipment in your basement, allowing you to pursue end-game recipes. From the simple premise there's a lot to explore.

A great little rogue-like deck-builder that's deservedly getting a lot of attention. If you know the hands of Poker, you already know how to play. Starting with 52 ordinary playing cards, you'll modify your cards and deck to increase the likelihood of getting great hands and upping their payout. The real fun starts with the Jokers, who can dramatically change the rules. The combinatorial effects of the different upgrades make your hands exponentially more valuable, allowing you to overcome more and more difficult challenges... that is, if you play your cards right. Brilliant design that keeps you coming back for "one more game." Highly recommend!

Simply one of the most elegantly designed games I've ever played! It's an automation game similar to Factorio, but much more puzzle-oriented and space-constrained. You will tinker and adjust your layout to get the perfect efficiency, while exploring and experimenting with ways to dial in the most profitable product. Because the resources and their effects are randomized each game, the puzzles you're figuring out are always slightly different. I keep coming back to this one time and again - highly recommended!

Very elegant coding game in a pseudo-assembly language. Some real brain-busters in here, as well as a sandbox to play around with the mechanics, and a bit of a hidden narrative to explore. Zachtronics is known for programming puzzle games and this early title has all the magic in text-only form,

Beneath what might look like a Zelda clone is a VERY clever core mechanic that appeals to anyone who loves to tinker. "Hack" means to literally hack into game objects and enemies. Let loose your inner game designer to make monsters do negative damage or other hacker wizardry. The puzzles all feel refreshingly new, and the story is delightful. Definitely worth a playthrough.
