The summer sale may have already destroyed my wallet, but it's the game I spent the least on that I've gotten the most enjoyment. The game is simply brilliant, from the addicting rogue like gameplay to the excellent electronic soundtrack. If you enjoy challenging gameblay, roguelike RPG's, or sidescrolling games this is simply a must bnuy, and I highly reccomend it to anybody else.

Like any roguelike game this game does not hold back on the difficulty, but what's great about this one is that while the game is always challenging it has a perfect learning curve. You brobably wonn't make it 5 minutes your first playthrough, but each subbsequent playthrough you'll be able to see yourself getting better and better, you never feel like you're stuck at a certain point. This is a huge part of what makes the game so addicting, the ability to see yourself improve is satisfying beyond belief.

The game becomes increasingly difficult as time goes on as well as advancing through stages, so the player must balance taking time to unlocking new items and rushing through the next level. There are a few options for which version of a stage you will play, for example the first level may take place in a desert stage, a lake stage, and a few other options, and each time the stage will be slightly different than the last time it was played. This makes it possible for experienced players to become familiar with different stage without making the levels predictable or easy.

The game boasts local and online multiplayer, and the co op play is a blast too. The fact that pleyers do not share items is a bit annoying, and since it is not possible to trade items it is hard to make sure your team mates are properly equipped. Also, online multiplayer is a bit unfinished so joining a game can be problematic, but the developers insist this is only a temporary issue and will be fixed, but is still worth mentioning (if this has been adressed at the time of reading, ignore this part).

So far, my only other real complaint is the difficulty of unlocking new characters. In fact, that''s why I did not mention them earlier, I have only played with two so far. The challenges required to unlock characters are tedious and/or excessively difficult, to the point that the casual player may only unlock two or three ne characters, and only after a very long time playing.

I highly reccomend anybody buy this game, and during a sale there is simply no reason to pick this one up

State of Decay is one of those games where you've decided only a few hours in you've already decided that you want a sequal, but have found the game only decently enjoyable. The premise is solid, survive the zombie apocolypse by creating a fortress from which you search for survivors, savenge supplies, and build defenses. Many actions, such as resource depletion and base upgrades, happen in real time, meaning if you queue up a hefty infirmary upgrade, you can leave the game and when you come back it will be closer to depletion. In addition, resources like food and mdicine slowly drain over time, requiring more careful managemnent. The real-time aspect is reminiscent of those free to play mobile games, except not a mind numbing cash cow. Some players have complained that mechanic unfairly punishes players that don't play often, but the develpors claim that not playing for a week or even a year will have only neglible negative impact on your game. Personally, I have not owned the game long enough to comment on this.

While these core functions are mostly well implemented and enjoyable, the game is marred by poor and sometimes baffling develpoment decisions and details. The game allows the player to switch between any character they have become friends with as currently used players become tired or injured, but for no apparant reason there is no way to swap items between them except by selling them to the shop and buying them back at an increased price. Many of the missions are incredibly poorly designed, the most notable of which are the "besieged" side missions. These missions task the player with "defending the perimeter" of another groups house, but the awkward camera angles and inabily to melee through windows make the battles far drawn out than they need to be. In fact, the game seems to reward doing the opposite of your mission and letting them in to fight them inside the house. The other side missions all revolve around the same few mission types, none of which are much better than this one. The game also does a poor job informing the player of even basic game mechanics like adding recruiting survivors, something which would have required minimal briefing in game.

Despite it's flaws, the game is still enjoyable. The combat is fluid and satisfying (though occaisonally the mouse and keyboard controls leave something ro be desired). The graphics look great for the most part, except when faced with long draw distances the ground textures are tiny and ugly. The voice acting is mostly solid, but repeated background dialogue gets annoying after a while. All in all This is a solid game, definitly worth a buy if the premise sounds intereting to you, or during a decent sale
