I'm starting to understand why this game is so polarizing.

The Good: I had to adjust my expectations. This isn't The Witcher 3/RDR2; I'm treating it as a massive action sandbox closer to Valheim. If you look past the overwhelming, system-heavy tutorial and just focus on exploring the world at your own pace. It's the kind of world you can easily sink 100+ hours into.

The Bad: The control scheme is a masterclass in poor design and feels like a massive regression for the industry. You're forced into incredibly awkward inputs (like holding RT and RB simultaneously for a special attack), weird 'Ctrl' modifiers, and absurd redundancies like needing entirely different hotkeys to sheath a sword versus a bow. This clunkiness bleeds into the inventory management, which is currently a chore due to the lack of proper storage systems and the crap UI, and basically unplayable for anyone without a controller.

The Ugly: While the writing and voice acting are surprisingly great, the technical presentation needs work. Facial animations are frequently out of sync, and the audio mixing lacks basic spatial awareness. Characters sound like they are standing in a dry recording booth whether you're talking to them in an open field or a tiny hut.

Verdict: We're in a situation where both fans and haters are both right. This game does need some work/polish, considering how the game starts, "rough onboarding" is a better way of putting it, I would ignore the review scores, watch some gameplay, and decide for yourself if the incredible sandbox is worth muscling through the initial struggle with the controls.

Update: It seems like the development team is making quick updates, which is a good sign for the games longevity.

Not sure why QA team at Pearl Abyss didn't address a lot of the things that people are pointing out (a lot of these issues are clear from the get go), but better late than never...

This game is a constant, you think you've seen it all and then it keeps amazing and surprising you, it's a must if you plan on playing on any handheld.

A UE5 Masterpiece, probably the best game to have been created under this engine. Feels fresh, runs well, have played Tarkov and that felt like a russian nightmare compared to this, there is a vibe with this game. Helldivers feeling but every time you deploy has that fresh dynamic, different loot, different maps, different quests, opportunistic teammates. I'm excited to see where they take this one. Would recommend this game without a doubt.

Only a few hours in and the ceiling’s already obvious. What looks cozy starts asking for clean routing, disciplined light, and actual reads in fights ... the margins tighten as you push. It quietly rewards craft over grind and exposes every greedy dig and messy inventory. After seeing what this game to offers I can only recommend it; just noting there’s a lot more mastery here than I expected, wondering what I will figure out next when playing with my friend!

Four episodes in and this thing has teeth. It isn’t “Telltale with capes”; it’s leaner. Conversations don’t linger, cuts land clean, and the desk work is the real draw, spinning plates while the city hisses at you through a headset. The hacking blindsided me. First three days I was flawless, patting myself on the back between calls; day 4 hit and I started fat-fingering inputs, chasing stray prompts while alarms nibbled at my focus.

It went from “cute diversion” to “okay, breathe” fast, and the best part is the game never yells, your mistakes echo on their own. Performances carry the weight without showboating, the animation sells the tiny tells, and the score keeps that low electrical hum that makes even small choices feel loaded. Not weighing in on cadence; just noting the weekly cliffhangers are doing their job. Quality’s high, I’m locked in, and I can’t stop thinking about the calls I could’ve handled cleaner.

This game is a work of art, seriously good port to PC. Graphics are stunning, honestly a great game and a must play for all gamers.

Don't recommend this, this game feels like you're getting pegged by shroud and paul george holding a morningstar. I don't like to get gangbanged by the Paul George team, I understand he's black, but he shouldn't make me suffer like this. This game made me think things, very very naughty things towards an inferior race.
