Since the 2.0 update it's really quite good. Often Paradox Games are too focused on map painting but Imperator is actually quite interesting during peaceful play as well, simply building up your civilization. Warfare is also really well done. It could use some additional improvements, some mechanics work rather poorly and the GUI and broader graphical style is a bit scruffy however the gameplay dynamics and the POPs system are excellent.

One of the best Paradox Games ever that has worked this well immediately upon release. Has kept the best elements of late-game CK2, stripping some of the parts that weren't working that well while not stripping it to its bare essentials. There is an increased focus on characters and playing along with their characters without railroading you.

Often I will play Paradox Games with some light tv in the background: stuff like Lucifer, White Collar that you can ignore for a couple of minutes but is nice for in the background. Often I'll be switching between TV and the game a bit. With CK3 that was not the case and I was entirely engrossed by the game. Maybe that will change later on but so far I can definitely recommend it.
