Fantastic little game with a great premise to explore. Great acting, cute story beats, fundamentally fun gameplay loop. If you're familiar and enjoy other 11bit games, (Frostpunk, This War of Mine) expect more of the same mood management and choices/conflict driven base building.

TL:DR Welcome back, Raven.

Veterans of the series can rest assured that this is unabashedly Armored Core at its finest, with slick modern polish.
Newcomers can expect a game of two halves. Methodical, thoughtful, and detailed building of your craft, with the other half being the intense adrenaline fuelled piloting thereof at high speeds.
Your machine is weighty and robust, but is offered bursts of agility through the usage of boosters at the cost of energy. The balance of instantaneous movement options, energy regeneration, and total energy capacity make for a challenging balancing act when managing your energy in combat.
The new, and welcome addition is the stagger mechanic, akin to Sekiro and the only souls like addition to the traditional Armored Core formula. This adds a layer of complexity to the building and combat mechanics of Armored Core, and fits very well into the total gameplay package.

The story is delivered in the usual way for an Armored Core game, Mission briefings, in combat radio chatter, text logs, and post-mission debriefings. While this might not sound as cinematic or engaging to a modern audience, it is highly immersive, and FromSoft are masters of the technique. Dialogue is delivered by a fully fleshed out and well characterised cast that uncover a laced web of connections regarding the mysteries of the planet Rubicon. Trust me when I say that listening to a reactive 'livestream' of the enemy forces losing hope in real time as you beat them down is a uniquely well suited plot delivery method that a scripted cutscene cannot compare to.

Repeat playthroughs are encouraged as there are three endings to achieve, and in combination with the depth in the architecture of your AC, replay value is astronomical. Factor in the multiplayer for near endless content.

Highly recommended, 10/10 GOTY contender, and 2023 was a damn good year for games already.

Beautiful artstyle, with gorgeous characters.
Bumping soundtrack.
Fast paced, competitive gameplay, with mindgames, but also fun to just goof off casually in.
10/10, if you have friends.

A truly great experience.

Excellent performances from the main cast, gatekept by stretches of gameplay, where the terrain is the main 'enemy.' Players expecting high action shooter-esq gameplay might be disappointed, but those who enjoy discovering the land and get a kick out of traversing obstacles optimally will enjoy the gameplay. Those that accept that this is a narrative heavy game, where the gameplay is largely a vehicle for narrating Sam's journey will find value in the story. Those who enjoy reading data logs as in System Shock or Deus Ex will find plenty of tasty Kojima-philosophy to digest. It takes a while to get there, but I did find that the payoff was well worth it in the end.

My one quibble, is with the 'self awareness' of the game and 4th wall breaking 'meta' stuff. I get that it's somewhat Kojima's trademark, but I personally don't find that sort of thing clever anymore, particularly as it wasn't done in a way that challenges the relationship between Player and Character as in his other works. They may have been few and far in between, but the 'meta' moments that went beyond "haha, the game reminds you that you are playing a game" and onto "the game discussing itself and the Character reality as a vehicle for probing Player reality" were very welcome and thought provoking.

All said and done, the soundtrack is 11/10, play the game.

An absolutely beautiful experience.
The Setting, Voice Acting and Game Mechanics are all dynamic and highly engaging. Animations are smooth, Characters are very well fleshed out, and the Story is moving in ways words cannot express.

I cannot recommend NieR:Automata enough. Play it, it's thoroughly enjoyable.

Absolute gem of a Rougelike deckbuilder.
The charming art style, challenging gameplay, kicking soundtrack, and huge deck variety contribute to the immense replay value of this game. If you liked FTL, Slay the Spire, Megaman Battle Network or just need a fresh take on the Roguelike genre, 11/10 would recommend

I laughed, I cried, I must pay respects to the developers.

A poignant reflection of modern existence without being overbearingly forced. Emotionally heavy moments are well balanced with levity and humour, all of which is well written. VA-11 HALL-A boasts well fleshed out characters and plotlines that are easy to care about, and rewarding to pay attention to. All the out of game moments of existing in a cyberpunk future are also well paced and build a well crafted world; the danger/u/ threads in particular evoking great nostalgia with mid 2000s internet culture references. The music and art design pair nicely with the compelling narrative, and I can wholeheartedly recommend this piece of art. I look forward to the developer's future endeavours.
