I don’t usually write reviews, but after seeing so many mixed opinions about this game—and after watching content about it for the past couple of days—I decided to give it a try (I didn’t preorder it).

1. Controls
I’ve seen a lot of people criticize the controls (I’m playing on mouse and keyboard), and I honestly have to disagree. In my opinion, they’re actually quite good and intuitive. Yes, you have to press certain keys like Control for specific actions, but that’s because it gives you more control over your character. I had to rebind the weapons wheel because that was actually awkwardly placed on the F2 key and I don't have F keys on my keyboard. The character also has a sense of weight (similar to Red Dead Redemption 2), so if you’re running forward, you won’t stop instantly. Personally, I don’t find this bad—it just feels more realistic.

I’ve also seen complaints about interacting with NPCs or objects, especially in first-person mode. In my experience, this worked flawlessly. You can interact without holding Control as well, which makes it feel smooth and responsive. It’s possible this was improved in an earlier patch, but either way, I wanted to mention that I didn’t encounter any issues here.

2. Graphics & Performance
The graphics are pretty good overall, although the image can look a bit grainy at times. I was somewhat expecting this since I’ve played Black Desert Online before, so I’m used to it. It feels like the anti-aliasing could be better. I noticed that enabling ray reconstruction improves the visuals significantly, but unfortunately, I play on a 4K display and my PC can’t handle it, so I keep it off.
Also, the game is quite demanding performance-wise, so if you’re unsure, I’d recommend checking YouTube benchmarks for your system before buying.

3. World & Immersion
Even though I haven’t explored much yet, the world already feels amazing and alive. NPCs are everywhere, going about their routines, and there are plenty of animals. You can even catch and carry them around—I tried it with a rabbit and a hedgehog, which was a nice touch.

4. Story
I can’t say much about the story yet since I’ve only just finished Chapter 1. From what I’ve seen so far, it doesn’t seem like the main focus. If you’re looking for a heavily story-driven experience, this might not be the game for you.

5. Combat
Combat feels really good. Since I’ve played Black Desert Online, I’m used to chaining multiple button combinations for combos. The system feels responsive, and the animations when defeating enemies are very satisfying.

I decided to write this review because I saw a lot of negative comments and wanted to try the game for myself. Honestly, I’m pleasantly surprised by Crimson Desert, and I’m excited to explore more of it.

Maybe I’ll come back and update this review after I’ve spent more time with the game, but for now, my conclusion is this: while it’s definitely not a game for everyone, it’s also not nearly as bad as some of the negative comments make it seem.

I found out about this game one day before release and I got obssesed with it apperently, it seemed to good to be true and after playing it I can confirm it lives up to the hype. I think this will replace SIMS for sure.
