Every year, we returned to Disneyland on the anniversary of our grandfather's death. It stopped being a sad thing for the younger kids as they grew older, but I was old enough to remember. Disneyland thought it was "compensating us for our loss," but all it really does is dredge up old buried memories of Grandpa's face, staring past the world, the cotton candy I made him eat laying partially eaten on the ground. We never did go fishing like he said we would.
So when we go back, year after year, I go to where he died and remember. I leave cotton candy on the ground in his name, but I never eat it.
