Rode on my horse to the village for some rest and ended up on my arse in the mud, while my horse kept riding into the village tavern for a well deserved ale

Slightly unforgiving Stalker like MMORPG

"Do not judge a book by its cover"

This is a sentence that fits this game very well. When you look at it you will think of a Minecraft style childrens game with guns. However this game is so much more. This is a full scale RPG, with leveling systems of your gear, and a proper FPS with good gunplay. The TTK(Time to kill) is a bit slow, but thats what you have to expect from an RPG. Things will be harder to kill at lower levels, or if the opponents gear has higher stats than your gear.

There's several areas in the game and if you think the first areas you start in are difficult, then you will quickly realize how easy things were in the starting zone at the end of the main storyline.

At this point more locations open up which are far harsher, and demanding of you as a player.

You will have to grind for gear upgrades, and learn the game mechanics to make it in, and out of certain areas.

This game is definitely worth a shot if you like RPG Shooters, or games which leaves you grinding for hours on end for gear, and upgrades which you will feel attached to. Its a timesink, but its great fun.

in short, it feels like XCOM just not turn based. Honestly, I've just played 6.6Hours, and it feels like a great game. Im terrified of losing my Marines, and I just finished the first level, playing on medium difficulty. After brutally failing my first mission, but getting out alive without the person I was supposed to rescue.

It seems like a stealth focused game, at least during the first level.
However the stealth is so-so. Just don't be in vision of the aliens... However their range of vision is incredibly long, and they spot you even with the back of their head. (there seems to be a class that lets you move with less visibility, if you upgrade) The game is forgiving enough on medium difficulty to mention before you are going to get swarmed, or ganged up on by a boss and its alien swarm. This feels nice, as you have a chance setting up defenses and traps.

The graphics are not anything to brag about. They are average. However I feel the gameplay is quite nice and fun as it feels similar to XCOM, which I really enjoy, but with a twist. The story so far seems interesting, but the voice acting could have had a polish.

The one thing I don't enjoy is the constant yelling when clicking to move. There should be different voices, and tones for each time. If you're walking, the marines should whisper or talk with an indoor voice, and when they run they should yell in my opinion. As of now, they yell like its in the middle of a battlefield at all times.

The only bug I have noticed so far, was while upgrading my units and trying to change their weapon. When I clicked the back button the game didn't register and back out of the screen I was on. Leaving me softlocked on the screen. For some reason you can't press "ESC" to go back, which I keep intuitively pressing.

The current pricing is hard to say if is fair. But I believe it could be as one mission took me 6.6 hours, as aforementioned. If there's many other missions too, I definitely got value for my money.

So, following Redgi through medieveal rat kingdom. With Ratatouille as his brother cooking up fancy dishes. The artstyle was on point that was the first thing I noticed, and the visual storytelling allows anyone to pick it up and play through it independent of language barriers. There is a narrator which helps progress the story, but to progress and finish what the narrator says would be completely optional.

This game was a blast. Simple to learn, mediocre to master. There were definitely some good boss fights, and combat segments in the game. Some that had me retrying more than I'd like to, after dying before getting in my finishing blows. The RPG Elements felt nice. I played a light/medium build up untill the end, when I got all the pieces for the top-tier gear. Then I equipped it all and became a heavy tank who could deal much damage, while also surviving most hits. Combat felt nice. It was nice to see different colored icons which alerted you of the next move your opponent were going to make. As I struggle with color blindness I was happy to see that they also made distinct icons for each attack your opponent were making, as to not leave people suffering from lack of color in their vision.

The game felt like a normal lenght game with a few retries, and doing all the side quests. Landed at about 7-8 hours of playtime. Spent some time in game AFK, so not completely sure exactly how long I spent. Regardless would definitely get the game if its on sale for at least 30% of the standard 20€ price tag. Replayability is the reason for this. There is an achievement for finishing the game on the highest difficulty which would be the only reason to go for a replay. Other than that, everything can be done in one playthrough, from the start till after the ending credits, as the game allows for open world exploration once done.

This feels like it was made by Valve. I didn't expect it to be this good after playing the first one.
I was amazed by the ideas that was put into play by the developers, and not to mention the character development they had for the main character, and others... It was interesting to see another part of the Half-Life universe than what we are familiar with, and meeting new enemies which many fans are familiar with through concept art, and other brand new ones. Which I had never seen. The campaign took me about 8-9hours to complete as I played on the hardest difficulty, and tried to get as much of the secrets as I possibly could. I would definitely play it again in the future If I ever feel like replaying all of Half-Life. For at this time I find this modification to be as close to Half-life 3 we are going to get for a long time. Especially due to where the story takes you in terms of locations.

Daymare is a classic survival horror, the likes of the original resident evil games.

The game is enjoyable but not the best survival horror game out there, but then again its not a AAA game. So its hard to reach that category

Personally the story of the game feels a bit boring, after the start, and until you reach the end where things start being tied up.

The gunplay is nice, with different reload mechanics that allow for more fluent gameplay. I played on a controller, so aiming was a bit hard. Had to use assisted aim, which helped a bit. However in most cases it hurt me more as I had a harder time aiming at the head with the crosshair being pulled towards the torso.

The gameplay of the game feels unfair at certain points. This is due to exploration seemingly punishes you more than it rewards you. When exploring, most of the time the devs have either spawned an enemy around a corner which is difficult to look around, and they are silent untill you walk around it before you are instantly grabbed and lose health. They do not react to gunshots if you are fighting a zombie before turning the corner and are just patiently waiting for you to come. If you aren't pre-aiming the corner with a shotgun you will most likely be grabbed.

They also enjoy spawning in enemies behind you in places where it seemingly are not entries. By this I mean you walk down a long hallway. 10seconds long. You enter a small room, and pickup an item. Suddenly you are grabbed from behind, as an enemy somehow has managed to clear the distance in 5seconds flat. Mind you the enemies are mostly slow.

Another instance the enemies teleport. What? Is this "semi-realism" or a magic universe? How can one enemy come from point A, to point B, in one second. One of the most annoying parts with this happening was during a chase with a new enemy. It never happened again after this one instance that the enemy teleported.

Another issue is one of the characters have hallucinations. These often come in the form of enemies, which if they attack you do damage to your health on screen. The hallucinations sometimes even allow for enemies to be directly in front of you once they disappear, allowing for almost no reaction time to defend yourself. In one section you can backtrack and you have walked past enemies in your hallucination. (How does this work?)

The voice acting is acceptable. Its not good. In serious scenes I sometimes were just laughing at the voice acting as it was just not fitting to the moment depicted.

Now after bashing on the things I disliked about the game... do I recommend it, and why?

Well the game is generous on the Normal mode, which I played it at. It gives you plenty of ammo, and health items if you play generally safe. It has the old school survival horror feel to it, and does what it sets out to do in terms of gameplay. The puzzles are good, and varied and most make sense. There is a bit of backtracking at times, but most of the backtracking is if you want to get extra items, and collectibles. There is a couple of different enemies, and a few boss fights allowing for variety in gameplay.

Yes, get this game if you want a classic survival horror game that has good gameplay, but average of mostly everything else.

Just finished the game after its release the 24/01/22. Please note that the game is still in early access, and anything I mention here might be included in the final game for all I know. I will also compare the game somewhat to Barotrauma as it feels and plays a lot like it, in my own opinion and is published by the same publisher.

The game itself is eerie. I would not say its scary at this stage unless you have some underlying fear of deep caves, tight tunnels or insects and arachnids.

You mostly solve puzzles in the game. This is usually by yourself or with other characters you can switch between. Some are able to operate vehicles and others can climb, blow up the ground, and send out drones.

The game is published by the same company that delivered us Barotrauma, and the start makes you believe its in the same universe, potentially even location. The Graphics are slightly cartoonish yet with some form of realism to the textures.

The gunplay feels nice, personally better than in Barotrauma, while the swimming I feel is not at its peak. I still wonder why developers that work for the same publisher, don't share gameplay elements. Imagine sharing the swimming and water physics (Note the physics of the water seems non-existent) other than bullet penetration with the water. With the developer of this game. I do hope that the Barotrauma team wants, and is allowed a peek at this game.

The challenge mode is okay, nothing to brag about. One could want a endless rogue like mode, where you get upgrades in terms of guns, maybe tools, stats, ammo, etc. And just keep going till you die. Getting ever more powerful same as the enemies.

The story feels lacking. Every mission feels like a different scenario you are tossed into. They do not feel to be connected. Another way to fool the players mind in this scenario is to do the aforementioned. Add a skill tree, new guns you can carry on to your next mission, new tools. I believe these three things could improve the feeling of the game, giving the player more to work towards.

When it comes to bugs, there was one bug I noticed, where I got stuck on a ladder. However the developer, had bugs in mind and added a "Stuck" button on the menu. Allowing you to "unstuck" yourself. Lastly there was another error which the developer knows about, and has mentioned on the discussion page already.

Should you get the game?

If I were you and just want a six hour neat game with puzzles, horror elements and high death rate. Go ahead! Especially to promote new developers. Remember this game is made by a single developer. Its not finished, and has a long way to go. To do so he will need funding, which is another reason for Early access!

If you want to play another rogue like such as Barotrauma because it looks the same. Wait.... Its not the same. Its linear "AS OF NOW". Not made by the same people, but published under the same publisher. It may look similar, but don't be fooled. Its just as with "The Thing".

However if you have money to spare, and read the last part. Go for it! Help fund the development, and have a fun time while trying out something new. Its still a good game.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is one of those games I've slept on. I expected it to be somewhat dark souls esque, but I was gladly surprised it was closer to games such as DOOM which Im familiar with. In the sense where you are trapped in arenas with enemies, and have to kill them all to progress.

The game is very simple, and to me it feels more of an art game. This is as the protagonist suffers from psychosis, which is well documented through people who are studying the psychological condition.
The game's combat consists of; Light attacks, Heavy attacks, Kicks and charged heavy attacks. Theres dodge mechanics and dodge mechanics aswell. Even though the combat is simple, each blow you connect with your enemy feels great. The story gripped me and had me really feel like I was fighting for something every time I hit the enemies at certain points in the game. Others felt as more filler fights.

However in the game the lack of fights felt good at times after a large fighting sequence. This was due to the very start where you learn that as you die, a darkness will take controll of your body. The more you die, the more it grows, and once it reaches your protagonists head your game save will be erased. With this in mind, each fight felt more scary to engage in, and the lack of fights sometimes felt like a blessing.

There's six types of enemies in the game. These are the basic sword wielding enemies, sword wielding enemies who needs an extra mechanic to combat, Mace wielding enemies, shield wielding enemies, dual axe wielding enemies and a heavy axe wielding enemy.

With the six enemy types there is several combat styles that work best, and change up the gameplay. especially when you fight more than one enemy at a time.

Other than these six enemies there are bosses, who also have their own mechanics and are much harder to fight in a one to one combat situation.

Other than combat there is a puzzle element to the game. The puzzles to me felt okay. They were not anything spectacular, and at times It felt tedious to me to complete some of them. However the story kept me engaged and had me think less of the puzzles and listen more to the story as I progressed.

As the story is told to you as you move around the game, its a big part of the entire gameplay. There is also possibility to learn of the Norse sagas and lore, through stones that you can find in the game. I cannot stress how great the voices in this game were. They were spectacular, leaving me longing for more lore inbetween the lorestones.

The game lasts about 6-7Hours, in my first playthrough. In this playthrough I attempted to find every collectible item, but missed about 5.

I'd like to mention that the soundtrack for the game is also great. Im listening to it as Im writing this review.

I highly recommend this game if you want a good story, okay puzzles, engaging combat, and great music.

Foxhole. A grand war simulator that seeks to fill your every want of gameplay.

Foxhole is an open world PVP war game. Its world is split into hexagonal sectors each with its own subsectors. The game is a tug of war between the two forces: Colonials and Wardens. Each with vehicles, weapons, uniforms and equipment based of historical ones.

Every single unit you see on the field in the game is a player. Every tool, piece of equipment and so on is created by other players. The creation of each item is not quick, it takes time, and therefore every utility in the game is worth more than in other games, as you can end up without it if not taking care.

Each war in the game usually takes from 1week to 1month to finish. This is dependant on how the players play, what the new meta after each update is, and how many players are involved through the war. In most cases the wars last for the lesser amount. But in rare cases they go on for quite long.

The game has a heavy focus on voice chat, so without it you may be ignored often, or get negative feedback. But with many players this is not an issue, and they are understanding of it.

There is a couple classes which I've played with after 106.4hours in the game. The way I play them are as follows

Infantry soldier: These are the grunts who fight for ground control. While playing this role you usually attempt pushing together with a squad to attack, and defend the frontlines.

Squad leader: This is the player who takes control of a squad, and tells them what to do. They are usually equipped with a radio and binoculars as to be able to scout for the group and instruct them in where to maneuver and where to focus their attack, or defense.

Medic: The person who tries to avoid combat, stays close to the back of the squad or frontlines and works his way forward to where friendlies are wounded to heal them, or have died to ressurect them.

Engineer: You build defensive bases, and structures. You repair tanks, and place mines for enemy tanks. You maintain your bases, and make sure they are healthy.

Partisan: These are the people who sneak in behind enemy lines attempting not to be spotted. Once behind you will steal trucks / destroy trucks, steal equipment. Blow up bridges, place mines on heavily travelled logistics routes and gather intel of easy to flank areas.

Sniper: Simple enough, get down somewhere high up if possible. Now get some long range kills.

Tank crew: These are the players who focus on destroying enemy forward defensive structures and destroying other vehicles, or buildings. This allows the Infantry soldiers to push, and take ground.

Logistics: These are the backbone of the entire game. As logistics theres little fighting, but always work to do.
Logistics gather supplies, and create weapons, tools, vehicles, uniforms, etc. Without them every other player would be running around with only their starter pistol and fists.

Transport: These are the guys that transport infantry back and forth from the front. Mostly its just TO the front, as most die when there.

I would heavily suggest this game if you want a game which goes on for long, and has resets often, with new content most of the time. If you have friends its even better as its easier to communicate and coordinate your roles.
