The Evil Within 2 fixes many things from the first installment but some of the things I liked was also gone.

You are Leon Sebastian, trying to find a girl in a town where everything went wrong and must use everything at your disposal to get to her...if you are playing on classic mode difficulty, that is. The game is not that hard to be honest, even in nightmare difficulty after you upgraded some abilities and guns. If you are familiar to action-adventure genre, this game won't challenge you much.

The design of the monsters that appear in the town are good enough for me, but it's the boss designs that I'm underwhelmed with. In the first game, every boss was unique and some of them even had their own little backstory. They were memorable. In this one, the antagonists are unique and do have their backstory which is great but they lost their creepiness. Only the chainsaw lady freak and the ''obscura'' is what I liked in terms of looks. Also, the final boss is better than the final boss of the first game but is still bad. Shoot the glowing parts, really?

The semi-open world style areas are not a bad addition in my opinion but I can understand if some players don't like it. It's a good thing the developers didn't just make the whole game resolve around in the same big area. There is variety, as you progress you start to visit different linear and semi-open areas. The environment design is nice and detailed, it is not boring to look at.



Now, onto the good parts :)

+ Controls are much better! You don't automatically stand up when you aim anymore, don't have to stand still while using syringes, can reload while sprinting and stealth is much more polished with the addition of stealth upgrades for Sebastian.

+ Upgrades are separated into two parts and the addition of crafting! No more using green gels for upgrading guns. Instead, you have to collect weapon parts to upgrade your guns. Another new addition is high-grade weapon parts and red gel, you use these two items to unlock the next tier in upgrades, these are found or given to you as you progress in the story. This system prevents you from upgrading to the top tier from the very start so you don't get overpowered in one category. Also, you can craft ammunition in workbenches using less crafting items or on the run using more items.

+ Better voice acting! I admit the lines can be cheesy at times but still Sebastian is not dull and actually has a personality.

+ The story! A father who feels guilty and trying to find his own daughter story is as generic as it sounds but what makes the story interesting is the involvement of mobius and STEM. I also would like to thank the developers for answering most of the questions that were asked in the first game and not forgetting the events of it AND building up on it. But I still have two questions:
1. How did Sebastian and his team went into the STEM in the first game and why?
2. WHERE IS MY BOY JOSEPH!?

+ You don't find the story interesting? It is still fun to play!

+ A polished game overall!
