I like games that have lots of layers to the gameplay. BS certainly had that. Also it was vast. But I stopped playing after 2 and half seasons because I had other things to do.

You have to do an entire season basically to appreciate it. It starts off with base building and research, but it evolves into the galactic politics and then moves into conquests towards terroritories, asteroids, resources, and supergiant stars as your resource requirements increase. Eventually you find yourself knee deep in war. I managed to start a war between TheTorch and FrenchWar with our union in the crossfire, it's all about strategic retreates, ambushes, counter attacks and ship formations and configurations. One of the most strategic games i've ever played.
