Awesome game, love the humor. Acts whacky but has some really good story moments and good messages. Lots of funny humor stuffed in as well.

It was gifted to me....I swear....anyway, I played it and actually had fun, most of the gooner stuff is pretty damn funny and ridiculous. The story and stuff is actually interesting enough to carry you forward, and then the situations our lad gets into is the thing that makes you wanna see what's next.

I'm going to be honest, I got really bored. It felt like the video game equivalent of an Oscar Art project. I couldn't get over the weird facial animations either and awkward smirking and silences of the characters. I got really sick of the "paint" art theme quickly. I didn't like the act 1 twist narratively either, like what was the point of doing that other than shock value, which just make me go okay....pointless mechanics now. Gameplaywise, the grind look gets dull fast and the constant checking and activating/deactivating your new Luminas was really annoying and I hated it. I appreciate the love and care they clearly put into it but I just couldn't get into it and felt it was a pretty standard RPG and got so much attention for some reason. I can't recommend this for anyone looking for a good game to play, I would recommend watching YouTube instead if you're curious about the story.

Old school Taletale style game with way better animation overall and great voice acting from the CR crew, also love you can turn off the horrible QTE gameplay and just sit back. Dispatching is actually really fun, I was there were more of those segments and less hacking. Overall, narrative was good, even if it felt like an Iron man rip off at times. I'm just glad the game wasn't full of woke ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, no blantant para-social messaging or communities virtuing real world non-sense to slog through. Maybe games are finally beginning to turn around and getting back on track!

100 Hour Review:
I have a better appreciation for the game as a whole after getting more time under my belt. Changing my review to a recommend but only after knowing what I know now.

For the record, if you're here to experience the story, just skip the preponderance of side content, you can comfortably get through the story without the power up on normal. The Ubisoft style point to point things fall off toward the end some actual challenging activities start after the Gold Saucer. There's some tough fights that require some thought, the fun card game and Mario Kart Style Chocobo racing.

I found the most entertaining way to tackle the game is to go through the story first and play that in large time chunks, then go back before tackling Hard Mode and take bite sized chunks a few times a week on the side content to get some gear and materia.

I plan to 100% this one and go back for Remake next.

.... I still hate Chadley though he sucks....

First 30 Hour Review:
I can't fully recommend this game compared to the first game....

Rebirth is full of filler content and not in a good way. Want to 100%, hell want to 50% the game? Climb endless towers, perform menial tasks and fetch assignments that add nothing to the narrative but are necessary for character progression and Materia collection. Speaking of the filler facilitator NPC, Chadley...he is literally the worst thing in the game. He was bearable in Remake as a short excuse to get Materia out of Shinra, but giving him a huge presence in this game was a mistake. He's unbearably annoying and I auto skip every time I see his stupid face on the transponder. The game is a slog to get through, Remake had moments of filler but they weren't anything close to this bad. Even the filler content here in Rebirth treats you like an idiot with all the obvious go here markers and endless ability to mulligan. I will be finishing the game and likely torturing myself because I love FF7 but dear lord I hope they don't do this again in Part 3.

The main narrative is fine but WAY smaller compared to the filler portions, unlike remake that had a pretty decent balance between the two, and didn't oversaturate its side-questing.

TLDR: Great game haunted by its title, it really hurts it and makes it look like some typical front page slop.

Chef RPG - EA Release ( 2 months in - 8 hours played)

TLDR: 7/10. A succulent and spicy Cooking/Town RPG simulation - Very similar to Stardew Valley but burned with crippling bugs. Don't be fooled by the title...terrible name for a game this good, I think that alone is hurting this title. It comes across as one those cheap knock off "XYZ story" titled games. Needs a rename ASAP!!!

Overview: A great little restaurant simulation with RPG elements and "townsfolk" small town hub. I find myself comparing this title to Stardew Valley as they share very similar game-play loops, aesthetic and feel for sure. There are some things this game does better but does tend to fall in the shadow of that game. Also, below you can read about some performance issues.

Visuals: 7/10 - Graphics are stylized 2D sprites with anime/Asian undertones, imagine mixed Western/Asian vibes like Big Hero 6. Real care was placed on the look of the food sprites in particular, my mouth literally watered at a few of the fake images so you know it's working. Portraits fit the setting, although personally I don't care for a lot of the characters themselves. There's this weird overuse of Cyberpunk/Steampunk look to MOST characters that I find distracting. Many of the female characters look overly masculine and men are overly feminine, which I find distracting to the main vein of the game but others may not notice it.

Sound: 9/10, music fits the ambiance well, there are a couple that feel out of place like the Summer over-world theme but generally are very nice. Sound FX sound extremely similar to SDV, i think it's literally the same pick up "pop" during gathering, but it still works.

Game-play: 7/10, Game-play loops are fun but can be repetitive. They are split into several sections, Restaurant, Gathering, Building, Town management and then Quests within each. Mercifully you can turn off the QTE cooking events during the Restaurant phase after you've cleared a certain score (it's not hard). If you had to do that every time, I probably would have quit. I love games that utilize the yearly calendar system although in its current state, there's not much that happens on different days of the week or month other than shops are closed and seasons change. There's some frustrating elements like chasing down your hunts. Additionally, it took me awhile to understand the menus. There are open and "greyed" out menu slots which for the first 6 or 7 hours I didn't know you could add additional foods to those "greyed" out boxes and have MORE things being sold, which I was overstocking on only cooking 1 appetizer and 1 main dish, once I figured out you can add multiple things, the cooking phase was way more fun. Also, progression seems unbalanced as my social and cooking skills are very low relative to my gathering, like a factor of x3. I think that needs tweaking.

Performance: 4/10. (Note the game is in early access, although that's commonly used to ship low expectations) The game crashes to desktop A LOT when you change area zones. It boots back up fast and auto-saves as it crashes, so its not unplayable when that happens, but very annoying I suspect the crash is tied to the auto-saving. Also, I got to the cave exploration section and encountered a game breaking hard lock during the discovery of the abandoned house. I cannot progress further at this point yet and will need to play around with the time of day potentially? The good side is, it runs smooth and there's no frame drops or wierdness from that end, just a couple boundary issues with animals crossing cliffs when they run away (rare).

End thought: It's a great game, there's lots to do in game for an EA title but needs some bug fixes asap. :cherrypie:

Plays fine with FPS mod uncap that takes 2 seconds to get on Nexus. Still need to play through the majority but just like I remember :)

Once again, a game ruined by Chinese hordes using garbage tactics and hacking. The Chinese company owns Grapeshot and Wildcard, so zero chance they will address this.
