This game is rough. That said, I really like it and I hope you will too.

The puzzles are fun and satisfying most of the time, though a few are overly vague and some maybe bugged. (Make sure you inspect objects thoroughly!) Others have you backtracking back-and-forth just a bit too much.

The music is good, if a bit safe and uninteresting at times. I would have liked to hear a bit more memorable themes and melodies in places, though it is a fairly small game overall so it would be difficult to do too much more with it musically.

The dialogue is *really* bad, but not in the fun RE1 campy way, and it's very much at odds with the story. There should probably be a separate volume control for the voice channel so you could just play text only.

The combat doesn't feel good, but it's fairly easy to exploit it to save ammo by blasting an enemy to the ground and then spamming the crowbar on them.

The map is unfortunately not great, not automatically opening to the floor you're on, and not showing which doors are open or locked after you check them. Also seemingly not showing room clear status. And unless I missed it, the last area doesn't have a map which makes navigation a real pain given the level design and camera placement.

The fixed camera is nice, but often moves too much where I feel it would have been better to hold a wider angle with less movement. Still, I wish more games used fixed cameras, I'm so sick of the "over-the-shoulder" crap everything does lately.

The story was interesting enough, and I really enjoyed how it came together. It would have been nice to see it polished up a bit more, and have more appropriate voice acting.

If you're interested in a more classic style game and can get past the roughness and annoyances I think it's very much worth playing. Although it would be harder to recommend if you don't have nostalgia for the classic Silent Hills, Resident Evils, and the like. (Keep in mind this is much more "SH" than "RE")

I really hope they're able to improve on all of this with the sequel, and would love to see more developers take a crack at it as well. We really need more games like this!

If you're a big fan of the original Resident Evil games, stay as far away from these new "reimaginings" as you can, and try to forget that they exist.
I suppose a lot of it is subjective, but for me there are just so many things they've gotten wrong it's unbelievable. Like as if everyone involved has just awful taste in general, and no clue what made the originals special, I just don't get it.
Regardless of the legacy though, the gameplay feels frustrating and unsatisfying, especially with the later enemies. So even with the already short game, I spent hours just wishing it would be over. It's all a huge chore, and there's no sense of satisfaction or fulfillment. The one or two "cool" moments aren't worth all the work, and don't fit the "realistic" style that they ruined the game with anyway. Just a mess.

I will say though, the RE Engine is fantastic, and allows for great image quality with good performance. So I have to commend whatever technical team at Capcom is responsible for putting that together. I just hope it gets used in more games that don't ♥♥♥♥ all over my gaming history like these knockoffs they're still calling Resident Evil. I bet it would also look better without the uncanny valley face scans, with good hand-crafted models. The "realism" thing is tiring.
