This is not Fantasy Life.

Fantasy life was a cute, fun game where you could gather Bliss. A game where combat was optional and you could go through the whole game never touching a combat class, just being a miner or a tailor the whole way through. Where you could enjoy the story lines of all the different guilds, with a cute butterfly companion. A game where you could own homes and pets.

This is a terrible combat rpg game thats trying really hard to look like Fantasy Life. A game where combat is so mandatory that they default you to a new combat class. Where you will automatically swap to your combat class out in the overworld at the press of a button. A game stripped of all the side stories; the guilds don't advance beyond the tutorial quest. A game with no real goals anymore except to grind, so much so that they decided to add an infinite COMBAT dungeon to hide rare drops behind and a borderline mandatory multiplayer zone for other drops. Yes you can do it solo but good fcking luck. This is a game where your own skill and levels matter so little that you can have npcs make your crafts for you. A game that really wanted to push the focus into combat, and I hate it for that.

Its cute, a sorta ok time waster, but it just doesn't feel satisfying. The tech tree, even tho its laid out branch style, is extremely linear due to its costs; you're expected to get the upgrades in a certain order, which causes gaps in what you would like to get. Like I wanted to focus more on electric asteroids early, or breaker size, but no, the game decides you've had enough and its time to increase the mass or go to planets.

So now you don't feel like you can break anything again, it never lets you feel like you got a nice power spike, because then the costs and hp immediatly go up so you can't enjoy anything.

The moons don't last nearly as long as they need to to feel satisfying, and theres no upgrade to increase the duration, so it just constantly feels like being edged the whole time. You can never get anything going.

This is an example of a game that sacrifices fun to try and stick to their gimick too hard. It's a collection of frustrations that amounted to a very 'not fun' time for me. I'll be comparing it to R.E.P.O., as its obviously trying to cash in on the same gameplay style, and I think R.E.P.O did it better.

The game forces you to split up, and the levels are far too massive, so you don't even get the feeling of playing with your friends. It's trying to make you feel alone to capture that horror vibe, and doing it in the cheepest way possible short of jumpscaring you with things on your screen. In R.E.P.O., the levels were small and managable and you were incentivized to stick together or at least return to each other because of the trolley, so you were able to hear each others cries and screams and such. This feels like playing 4 single play (bad) horror games until you get back to the train, except theres no way to communicate that.

The game needs a way to tell if your friends are dead or alive. Leaving them behind on the tram is frustrating, because I can sit there for minutes waiting only to find out they've been dead, or I leave and they all get salty cause they were abandoned. I'd argue that seeing your friends health in the hud would not detract much from the game, as there are already no indicators (such as names or cosmetics) to distinguish who is who, so you'd still run into mimics from time to time. Even then, the mimics aren't that important because you have plenty of other monsters in the game already. R.E.P.O. you could at least find your friends heads, so you knew you weren't leaving anyone behind.

The levels are way too massive, my point about splitting up aside, they are deliberatly confusing and maze like and make no sense whatsoever. Getting lost is not fun, and can be very frustrating. Boy I sure do love always only turning left cause thats the only way to keep my bearings :v. The game could use a map, mini like R.E.P.O. or heck, give the players a paper map that obscures their screen while they're looking at it if you really want to limit knowledge on their whereabouts. You're already timing us with both the toxicity mechanic, and the threat of the tram leaving (timing out, or by a friend) that getting lost is completely unnecessary.

I wanted to like it, but the idea of a phone conversation is just not that good. Interesting, yes, but not that good. The story advances too slowly, and if you miss a message then it gets all screwed up. Sure, checking in every 10 hours doesn't sound that bad, but something came up one day and I missed one, so off the rails it goes.

Adding a timeshift just feels like a bad bandaid. The experience is still shallow.

Also, the idea of not being the isekaid one/the one that gets the husbando and forced to be an onlooker is just... certainly one of the ideas of all time.

Its a cute game, dinosaur animal crossing, and I appreciate it for that, but it is SO BADLY MADE.

The menus and UI are a mess, and tricky to navigate. They don't provide enough info; hovering the cursor over the NPC's level 2 'skill' doesn't tell you what it does for example, and the recipes you unlock are kind of a crapshoot on what their traits are. I still only have 1 Large and 1 Small recipe even though I've been trying to get more. How is a ring not a small item???

The quests are buggy as hell. I managed to do one out of order, so the second tickbox is checked but not the first. God I hope that doesn't softlock me when i finally get objective 1 done. Also, I managed to clone an NPC's house, because when the Invite to Island menu is empty, it still defaults one of their stats on the right side and lets you invite them, so I was able to get two houses for Scout. Here's hoping that doesn't break anything either.

There no way to delete trash from your inventory. I have way too much dirt, not enough recipes use it (again, would be nice if i could see that before buying them) and I have to keep digging holes to try and find museum artifacts, which, by the way, it would have been swell to see a list of stuff I need to fine, 0/1 kind of thing. The NPC keeps giving me dialouge that sounds like I have something he wants but then gets bummed out. I have no idea what he could want.

All in all, its a cute game that I'm going to keep playing because I'm stuck with it, and I wish it was better because it does have a good vibe, but BY GOD they need to fix a loooot of stuff. The intro before the main menu keeps blowing out my ears because its volume isn't reflective of the volume you change in the settings, so its *Loud*.

Basically, wait a few months, see if they fix stuff, cause that volume bug should have been a super easy day 1 fix.

This isn't a game, its a kinetic novel. there are no choices, no branching paths, no gameplay (at the time of writing, which i imagine is halfway through based on my unlocked BGs and CGs). If this was a review on a book or a webcomic, I would have given it a thumbs up, but this is Steam, a gaming platform, where people come to look for games.

It's really unfortunate that I can't recommend this, as it has an overall good story and I absolutely love the concept of having the main character be reborn as a Synth and having to deal with that fallout. I feel like it had such potential but the lack of user interaction was a real letdown.

Every medium- books, comics, movies, serialized tv shows, games- has its strengths. The strength of the game medium is user interaction and immersion. I feel like this could have been so much more impactful if there had been the ability for me to sculpt the story based on how I would react in a given situation, as most Visual Novels do. What is the point of asking for my preferred name and pronouns even if I don't really get to be me? The entire intro spiels on about your choices and then it doesn't give you any after the prologue.

These developers are by far the worst at balancing I have ever seen. Their numbers and mechanics are so bloody ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up that the game becomes incredibly unfun with no payoff at all. There are no new unlocks other than cosmetics so losing doesn't even get you "a little bit closer"

I'm trying to play a nice card game and the opponent is playing solitaire, chaining 20+ special summons (link, xyz, synchro) on turn 3 and just wins.
