Preface this by saying I am playing on Linux, so some of the performance issues may be related.

Without knowing much about the history of it, this game feels like its trying to fit that Capital Ship + Boarding Fantasy, something which I feel has very much been missing since the original Battlefront games. That part of it is actually pretty great, the capital ships, boarding, all are pretty cool when they work together. I think the bot support is pretty decent as well, and considering the game is practically dead online (literally 0 players online) save for a few community organized events, this seems like a good move.

I'd say the biggest problems for me are optimization and more specifically CPU usage. Maybe it's the engine, but it seems to be quite single threaded and does not make use of the CPU well. I'm on a 7840u, which is a laptop processor, but only goes to about 20% usage in this game, and feels like the bottleneck as the gpu does appear to be being used properly.

I also think that the infantry combat is quite poor. Handheld weapons feel pretty janky, weightless, and the animations are pretty barebones, and don't showcase the game's strengths very well. I don't really know why there were added, unless a space tie in was planned at some point.

The layered objectives are also kinda boring IMO. I've seen this in EA battlefront and never liked it. You'll be in a space battle at one point, then be fighting on the ground the next. Oddly though, you're spaceships still kind of hang around, spawnable, and operateable. There's just nothing happening because everyone is aboard the station. I got kind of confused by this at one point, because all the objective markers disapeared, leaving me to meander around for a few minutes until I realized where the objective was by opening up the redeploy screen.

Why am I still giving it a thumbs up? Because it's closer to fulfilling what the original battlefront games started, and I hope that if there is any development runway left I would like to see the following:

- Performance pass, specifically on CPU usage.
- Handheld weapon animations are pretty rough, and since it's what the player is looking at 90% of the time, would be nice to give them a bit more weight. Kind of on the player controller side as well.
- Making some of the more linear, staged modes, a bit more dynamic and replayable.
- Would be amazing if all had indoor and outdoor battle objectives running at the same time. 'd take just allowing the order of objectives to be randomized, or allowing players to reset them.

This probably will never be seen by the devs, and I imagine it would be too much work at this point in the game's lifecycle, but I digress, those are my thoughts.

Not beginner friendly at all. No in game resources to introduce you to the game. Don't even bother playing without a guide, you'll just get ♥♥♥♥ on. Terrible at the game and proud.

I mean, what is there to say, the game is awesome. It's really polished; visually, gameplay-wise, progression-wise, all are top notch. That being said, 4 days into OBT and the game is almost entirely unplayable because of the servers. Will change the review if/when it gets fixed, but this is not a good start considering the last 6 months were supposedly going to fix this and the game launched in 2018 with identical issues.

Update 10/07/2022: The devs did react very quickly to the issues, and apparently servers have been stabilized a week after launch, albeit with queues in place. I've read that the split with My.games is messy, so I'm willing to cut them some slack. As long as they can sort them though, this game is great and can't wait to get stuck into it's future content.

Solid Looter shooter with a fairly intricate leveling and modding system allowing for a ton of different build variety and flexibility. If you're a fan of linear as hell looter shooters, you'll like this, if not, you're probably really not going to enjoy it. The story is fairly mid level, but has some high points and good twists, definitely a lot better than Destiny or y1 Destiny 2, and by the end of the 15 odd hour campaign you feel satisfied, and then there's still 20 or so more expeditions and a ton of side quests for you to do. This game does not lack content at all, if you like what you played in the demo, you just keep getting more of that. Cover system works fairly well 90% of the time, but it does have some hiccups occasionally and was clearly made with console players in mind.

Gameplay variety is fairly stagnant at about halfway through the game after you've seen all of the enemy types, at that point they basically become reruns of old enemies. Cutscenes are pretty weird and annoying sometimes, thankfully you can skip most of them.

Edit: So Apparently this game uses permawipes as I just found out, guess I just wasted 16 hours. This has got to be the most asinine idea ever, and until this is outright removed or replaced with some system that enables players to not lose all of their hard earned progress my review will stay the same. A simple prestige system like those that have been around for years in other games would be a good start.

Solid F2P Extraction Royale that could do with a little more optimization and tweaking. The offering here is solid as it is though and the monetization is top notch. Seriously recommend and can't wait to see more content added.

An incredibly beautiful and serene experience; no hand holding, tons of things to do if you know where to look. The amount of detail and care that has been put into the environments and items is astounding. Cannot wait to see what the future holds for this game, but even right now there is a good amount of content here if you're into this sort of game.

Thouroughly riddled with Server issues and bugs though, so be prepared for that. I still love the idea though and for that reason it's a thumbs up.

*Update Feb 2022*
Latest update has fixed almost all the server latency related issues, a huge win to be sure. For that reason, I can safely recommend the game in it's current state.

*Update February 2023*
The game has sat in early access for a year now, and essentially added nothing practical to the game. I know the devs have supposedly added thousands of lines of dialogue and done bug fixes/technical work, but most of that just isn't visible on the player end and still does not solve some of the core issues with the game. The main one being proper quest tracking. The devs have been teasing a ton of great content, saying it will come in "in the coming months" or "the coming weeks and months", then proceed to release nothing. What really needs to be done at this point is for them to just stop talking, put there heads down, and get the game to a more enjoyable state.

*Update Oct 2024*
I'm changing my review, just because the devs have continued updating, and the concept is just so cool to me. Is it worth $45? Hell no, but get it on sale, and it's still one of the most ambitious, unique little coop games you can buy.

This game is majorly slept on. It's a great, simple to understand but hard to master RTS that is super unique in the genre. Some sections of the UI and networking feel a little bit cobbled together, but besides that it's a really fun game. One thing I would like to see is a more in depth scenario creator and maybe crossplay with mobile.
