Wow. Just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. This game was a joy ride.

This game is definatelly one of the FPS classics, that we live off in todays standards. Just look at the metacritic score and you'll know what I mean. This game is so great for 2 reasons.
1: The story, plot, setting, and characters are all so perfectly crafted; it is easily has one of the greatest video game plots of all time. OF ALL F*CKING TIME.
2: It was so diverse and unique for the years that it came out, it shocked the world; and definatelly became a video game classic.

The story revolves around Jack. Just an average joe who survives a plane crash and discovers the chaotic 1960's under water metropolis of Rapture. An underwater city torn apart by civil war, and genetic DNA modifications. You quick enough learn that even though it looked all nice and pretty from the outside whilst Ryan gave his monologue, that it is an extremely horrible and murderous place, and the only way you'll survive is by becoming a murderous monster too. And the city all revolves around ADAM. A substance discovered on underwater slugs that can give the ability to genetically rewrite your DNA, giving you these crazy ass and awesome powers, such as shooting savageous bees from your fingertips to the power of telekenisis and moving nearly anything you want with the power of your mind.

But ADAM isn't a very nice thing. It became the core of Rapture. Rather than gas and oil running the planet today, ADAM runs the city and everyone uses it. But it eventually leads these people to insanity and commiting inhumane actions "Kinda like that guy in Miami that got high off of 'bath salts' and ate that hobo's face off". Then the whole city turned to doggy doo doo as everyone killed each other not in their own minds. I mean, the story behing Rapture is great enough itself. Not just the downfall of it; but how it actually came to be, which you can learn from audio logs throughout the game.

But then you have to realize that it is a video game, Which means you will be playing it. Which brings us to combat. How is the combat? Hard to truly explain. In one case it's like any old shooter. You have 6 primary weapons. The revolver, machine gun, shotgun, grenade launcher, chemical thrower and ratchet for melee. Now the game does have various upgrade stations through out it so you can upgrade your weapons to make them better. Such as a bigger clip size, increased damage, lower recoil, more max ammo etc. But then there is the other half of combat. Plasmids. The actual ADAM part of the game. These half of combat has really awesome powers, that also, with upgrades; can become beastly and make you unstoppable. Some of the plasmids available are pyrokenisis, telekenisis, freezing enemies with your hands, and even shooting a handful of bees at enemies to cause slight damage but mainly distract them from the actual fight with the real enemy: you.

Now comes the final part we all want to know about, the ending. Is the ending actually good? No. I personally dont really like the ending. It was just kind of a "bwa" ending and you cant just give games that have amazing plots and storylines a "bwa" ending. Then again, no spoilers. Making it kind of hard to explain why I dislike it.

ALMOST FORGOT: BIG DADDIES!

No, they will not love you. They are genetically modified humans that have had their skin grafted to a diving suit, to perform repair maitenance on the outside water parts of Rapture. Where no one can actually go! These big daddies protect "little sisters". Little girls that carry and store ADAM in them. And in Rapture, you need ADAM. So to get it from the little sisters, who do you think you'll have to go through? Yup. And trust me; They're tough. Now when you kill the big daddies you can choose to harvest the little sister, completely killing her and harvesting all the ADAM from her, or rescue the little sister; getting less ADAM, but not being an evil scumbitch and killing her off. Now in the end, whether you chose to harvest or rescue the majority of the little sisters, will ultimately decide the ending. So choose wisely my friends.

FINAL VERDICT:
8/10
A great game that definatelly has one of the best video game storylines of all time, average combat, but mixed up a bit with the fun and new plasmids, and a pretty "meh" ending which is really what matters the most in the end right? But overall, pick this game up. No matter the price.

This is one AMAZING game! Easily one of the best of 2013. It has absolutely BEUATIFUL graphics and a great and amazing new city to explore too. It has nice refreching FPS action, a very unique and fun sky hook system, and a BRILLIANTLY crafted storyline. Great character development (With Elizabeth of course :), very fun and useful vigors and powers to use, and even has the balls to tackle major controversial themes such as religous and racial segregation, and also has one hell of an ending that certainly packs a punch! It almost hurts being it's so deep. But don't worry, a quick google search will answer any question you ever had on the end, and when you do figure everything out, your guarenteed a mindblow. The game also has a quick visit to the city you've learned to love in Bioshock 1 & 2, so whats not to love? This is probbably the best game of 2013 or in the top 3, with no doubt. This game earns a 8.5/10 on my list, and i dont give those out easily. I DEFINATELY reccomend this to a friend. And if you haven't played it yet, what's wrong with you? Now it doesn't have much replay value, so it's not exactly worth 40$, but if it ends up on a steam sale for say 10$, picking it up wouldn't be a bad idea.
