I bought this game because it was in a bundle with PEAK but I already owned PEAK so it was the freest discount of my life. I won't lie, I didn't understand the controls at first. I didn't understand why stamina was so finicky, didn't understand why my hands wouldn't go into the spots I wanted or why my feet were just not doing what feet should do. Climbing, falling, climbing, falling, dying, loading, climbing. But I got it down...mostly. I kept using the route view option to kinda get a birds eye view, I know a little cheeky if I say so myself.

Then I'd see a backpack and spend an hour and some change, chewing through pitons and screaming at my screen like it owed me my foothold back. Trog pins were great, the story didn't really make sense to me at the start. Bit blind, cutscenes popped up randomly, gave context. Slowly piecing it all together only to realize I still didn't know why, or maybe I never should know. Then there was the ice, how I hated you.

Throwing a wrench in my climbing up until then, new mechanic, new texture. Then I learned...then I loved the ice. It seemed so much more honest, forgiving. Abusing pitons all the way I could, I was pretty lucky with rolling the dice and getting them back every time. Slowly climbing to the top despite everything's best efforts to have me drop. But was it the right choice? As I finally smashed my ice axe into the last bit of ice, hauling myself up and over the edge. The walk was simple, the music was fitting. (Though a bit loud, but that's my bad for not turning it down) I drop to my knees and look up, the sky greets me back and I sit. I wonder...what was I really doing on this mountain? Was it worth it? And then I realized I had never been more invested in a game about climbing a really big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rock.

Eh, parkour feels a little off. The Day/Night cycle not working visually kinda fries the whole game for me rn. Buy it, don't buy it go nuts.

Now with those glaring issues out of the way, it's time for my opinion. Price? I'm not feeling this is 60-70 dollar game material, 40 standard 50 deluxe would be more understandable. Performance is alright I guess, the game doesn't look like trash but the map feels so...odd. The cars are honestly featherweight champions if touched at the wrong angle and traversing the map is a slog.

Spoiler right here:
When the Sheriff and Largo both toss you to the Baron it really had me looking behind me over my shoulder at the invisible camera with that signature "Get a load of this guy/gal face." They both felt so cheap and entirely tacky as a plot twist for me, this may change with more gameplay as I get deeper into the story but I doubt it.

Now for what I do like: Crane.
I mean lets be real he looks like a damn G, one eye normal the other one infected? Not to mention he's built like a walking brick ♥♥♥♥-house who should be able to absolutely plow over common infected who are nothing but skin and bones.

Buuuut he doesn't, I'm out here getting felt up by those same walking skeletons from a distance that would make Lebron's wingspan feel like a single foot. Not to mention those same guys take more hits than an Abrams to kill with anything that isn't a throwing knife or a gun/bow.

Like I said at the very start of this review, buy it or don't it's really not my problem.

The peak of open world, single player storytelling. Graphically astounding and excellently crafted environments with the usual Metro twinge. Almost perfectly seamless transitions into menus in gameplay, full dive capabilities for the UI itself and that ever so charming cracked glass on your frost covered Gas Mask. The story is great in itself and your choices really make you feel the weight of your ending. With Artyom, the pinnacle of just being human being your ever so silent savior...or executioner. Choices both right and wrong lay in front of you, what do you choose?

You ever just decide, "I'm broke, heard God died here and lost the realm of Heaven here...but if I win I get like 60k. ♥♥♥♥ it." Then proceed to absolute slather the walls with your brain matter, only to be brought back in that dingy bathroom by the Cerberus from Ultrakill with the most BAAAAAAANGER soundtrack for a club I've ever heard, only to do it all over again? Well if you did, then you know how it feels to play Buckshot Roulette. Most Gamblers stop before they make it big, get to the Million club.

"I ♥♥♥♥ you not J, its a Punchy Black & White, Red and Yellow visual novel game...but you DRIVE."

This game is a gem and I could care less about what most people think. Now granted, less driving than I could want...but I really enjoy the story. Radio hosts are great VAs but the scripts were a bit meh. But the scenery, my personal enjoyment for B&W color schemes with a punch of color, the involvement of running from the cops and the entire United States EXCEPT FOR THE EAST COAST as the playable map has made me happy. As much as I hate European cars that thing slaps for any speed freaks out there.

Some guy called me the Hard-R so I shot him with a dart gun, stuffed him in my trunk and then dive bombed out of my car sending it flying into the alligator infested Bayou. If any of you have read my Mad Max review then this is basically a cut and dry rerun of it with only a select few things better. Soundtrack is way better, story got more gruff to it and the people are racist. Physics are jank sometimes, game itself is a little repetitive like 90% of the time but I can overlook it for the story and of course...I come back and play it like once a year and a half or so.

I come back and playthrough this game at least once a year, beat the game within under 1 day total of playtime and then continue on with my life. If that doesn't scream some sort of replayability for some people then I don't know what the hell else to tell you. Physics are jank sometimes, story is rather short but it makes more sense than the movies and it does get rather repetitive at times. But that has not stopped me from replaying the game and clearing it with max upgrades 7 separate times. Online servers long since shut down and you will need SAM for a couple achievements now.

You ever just beat the brakes off of a Mercedes Benz? Well I do because ♥♥♥♥ em. Ram the cops off the roads, slam through barricades and ever so often break the laws of physics by stopping on a dime at 200 miles per hour. Car selections are good, races are replayable, EA's launcher mostly doesn't cook the game, online modes are still playable and yes sir that is a Mercedes flying off a mountain.

10/10 More than I can say for most EA titles.

Half-Pife. I can not stress this enough, seeing Half-Pife had me sit there for a solid 10 minutes. 10 minutes of my 1.5 hours of playtime of this review was spent laughing and thinking about Half-Pife. But in all seriousness, the game is a hit in my opinion. As an avid Metro enjoyer I can never get enough of Russian Dystopian or Apocalypse tropes...and this game checks those boxes. Peak comedy? Yeah they got Half-Pife. Russian? I can't understand a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ word out of a subtitle. Apocalypse and Horror? I scared the ♥♥♥♥ out of my friend because I got sneak dissed by an invisible zombie or whatever the hell it is and shouted "♥♥♥♥ HES SEE THROUGH!" and blind fired 3 magazines of 7.62×25mm into him and the surrounding walls and zombie children.

This is an excuse of a racing game, the controls are terrible and the menus managed to get me soft locked in the tutorial. Don't buy this unless its in the bargain at Target, and even then no.
