I bought this game for full price near release based on the hype. I avoided all trailers and was going off of other's recommendations, knowing essentially nothing except it was a FromSoft game and expecting that sort of quality. I also very wrongly assumed it was a samurai game, and I think a lot of my initial disappointment came from realizing it's instead a shinobi game. I have a big distaste for stealth as a game mechanic, didn't care about items and tools in what I thought was a samurai game, and always play games purely blind. Naturally I ended up constantly taking sidepaths my character really wasn't equipped for, while ignoring crucial game mechanics like stealth and the prosthetic tool and I stopped playing 10 hours in when I realized I just wasn't having any fun. I wasn't invested at all in the game and felt burned on my purchase

There's only one way to play Sekiro; you fall in line or simply don't have fun. Coming back a year later on a fresh plate I knew this time to fall in line and I beat it without much trouble. While there are some good parts of the game, there's still a unignorable number of flaws and ultimately I don't think it's worth the full pricetag I paid.

-It's very short for this sort of game, I started fresh when I came back and my run was only 30 hours - I explored every area, beat every enemy I could, and did all the sidequests. This isn't nearly as bad as the fact there's zero replayability since there's no customization and no build variety. The only thing I'd want to experience in another run would be a couple boss fights from an alternate ending, but slogging through everything else up to that doesn't sound very enjoyable.

-The story is extremely shallow and boring, didn't find it good at all and felt nothing for the characters

-The prosthetic tool is very unbalanced, with the majority of the tools being extremely overpowered. I stopped using it on bosses completely halfway through as it just felt totally unrewarding to use. I don't mind that some items and stealth interactions are cheesy and exploitable, it's a single player game and it's up to the person if they wanna ruin the experience for themselves. The prosthetic tool is such a major factor of the game though and one of the only personalized choices you make as a character that it felt extremely lame to feel bad for ever using it. I thought a lot of the designs were very creative and would've liked experimenting with it more if they weren't so brokenly strong.

-The bosses and mini-bosses are very hit-or-miss. While there are some gems (namely the humanoid 1v1 bosses, including the final boss which is one of the best I've ever experienced), there's an embarrassing number of retreads and lazy gimmick repeats. There aren't enough challenging and memorable main bosses, and one of my biggest complaints with this is they lock an improved, more difficult version of one of the game's absolute best fights behind some obscure things you need to do for an alternate ending. I don't mind missing out of alternate endings while playing blind, but missing out on a fight I probably would've loved and considered one of the best in the game because I never knew to creep around friendly npcs and eavesdrop on them is very disappointing

-The soundtrack is disappointing and completely unmemorable

Overall lot of these are subjective but the short length and zero replayability are what make it a not recommended for me at $60.
