In my first play through, I got to meet the union boss and then died after sitting in a chair. 10/10 experience

This is a game that plays like an art piece. If you like reading and thinking about the choices you make, then you'll probably like it. This is one of very few games where I feel like the decisions I make actually have consequences that ripple through the entire game. The writing is excellent and I find the game to be extremely immersive.

My only real critique would be that the game kind of promotes save-scumming. I know that a lot of people will say that the game encourages you to just "roll with it" if you don't meet a skill check, but I found myself re-running checks if they were around 50% and just leaving them be if they were less than that. I wouldn't call it "gameplay", as there's no skill required - a roll of a dice. The inspiration from tabletop RPGs is obvious.

But besides that, it feels like there is so much to do. Characters stay relevant throughout the game, and you can do basically whatever you want and reap the consequences. The game will make fun at you at any opportunity that presents itself. There seems to be a lot of replayability, although I probably won't do that for a while.

Overall, fantastic game to pick in a 90% off sale. I thoroughly enjoyed it, which brings me to the situation with the developers that many other reviews are discussing. In some sort of cruel irony, the game is no longer the property of the original developers, so the money I paid for this game will (if I understand correctly) never see their pockets. So, if it were not for the convenience of Steam, I would probably pirate it. It seems the original creators are now working on their own projects, separate to DE.

Also, apparently the new mobile version is to "captivate the TikTok user"? I think that says it all.

Do not buy this unless it is on a deep, deep sale, but I do highly recommend the game nonetheless.

War Thunder is a very challenging game, but honestly I find it a lot of fun. I play a lot of different vehicles, get used to their weapons, quirks and avionics, and sooner or later I get a new shiny one. I mostly play air realistic, where the economy is a lot better than ground in my opinion. I have researched the entire British air tree multiple times (they keep adding new vehicles and it brings me back to Britain again) and I find it a lot of fun to play all these different vehicles - this is War Thunder's main strength, having so many different vehicles you can play. And while there will always be meta picks, an off-meta plane can still be strong with the right flying.

One of the major talking points for this game is the economy, and it was why I originally left a harsh review. I'm a better player now than I was 2000 hours ago, but Gaijin have honestly made good improvements to the economy since then. Daily research bonuses, skill bonuses and now recycling boosters and wagers all help a lot with grinding. Getting an ace is now a very rewarding thing, and thanks to the severe damage mechanic I'm no longer bothered by having my kill stolen all the time (thanks Hispanos!). I currently don't have a premium account, and at the minute I only play my premium vehicles when I have a booster, and I still make a decent enough profit from my regular playing that allows me to buy a new vehicle every now and again.

I do think there are still many areas for improvement though - especially with high tier jets. Individual modules have horrendous RP cost, which isn't too bad at 14.0 where you get AIM-120 stock allowing you to get a few kills (ignoring the fact you don't get chaff). But if I take for example the F-4E Phantom II, my most recent plane, it has a horrendous stock grind where you only get a couple of AIM-9Es and of course the gun. I got kills with the AIM-9Es once every few matches, but they are not great at all at 11.3. This forces players to treat the Phantom as a bomb truck for a long time, until they finally unlock the AIM-7Es, which is a frustrating experience when lobbies are full of premium jet players rushing to the nearest base.

I'd like to see modification costs go down, and also expert crew costs for top tier jets. I wouldn't dream of flying my Typhoon without an expert crew, it is a must have if you want to be competitive. But I am leaving a positive review, because I think this is a game I can honestly recommend now. Things are improving, the game gets better with almost every update. And with talk of strategic bombers coming at some point, we might actually be seeing a new air realistic gamemode - which is something I am very much looking forward to.

A final point I wanted to add is about premium time and premium vehicles. This game is designed to be played with a premium account, make no mistake. A premium account lets you play "your way", and it's not too expensive to buy, and comes with pack premium vehicles. But as someone who only buys premium anything when it's 50% off, it almost feels like a cop out to buy premium at full price. I also think that having at least one premium vehicle for your preferred gamemode is a must, as it allows you to make the most out of your SL or RP boosters - something you can turn to if you need silver lions for a new vehicle.

All in all, I do recommend this game if you are interested in any of the vehicles. I don't think this is a game that should be played entirely free-to-play, but it's also not a game that has to be a constant expense. No matter what, I keep getting brought back to this game and premium vehicles can be well worth it in a sale. If you are reading this and on the fence, this game really is a difficult sell. If you want to play modern tanks, or maybe you want to fly an A-10 or something, you either have months of grind (best case scenario) or a hefty price tag ahead of you. This isn't great, but playing through the tiers of the game teaches you a lot of mechanics that you will continue to use later. I also really recommend new players to play with a friend or join an active squadron that plays together, as I think that is the best way to learn and to avoid frustration.

A brilliant addition to the Event Horizon franchise. Frontier is very similar to Event Horizon with a few key differences, such as a clear progression through levels.

The game is built around the original Event Horizon as its core. You can still find modules from derelict ships and use them to upgrade your own, but the game also offers new features.

My full review is below. If you would prefer not to read it, tl;dr if you like space games you will most likely enjoy Frontier, but be prepared to grind.

EXPLORATION:

A lot has changed between the original Event Horizon and Event Horizon Frontier in terms of gameplay. You can still choose what to fight, but progression has been made linear as you battle your way through infinite tower defence levels. Using the star map, you can choose to fight the next level to obtain stars and modules, previously cleared nodes to grind up experience and cash, or take part in events such as the daily challenge or explore beacons. While Event Horizon is a lot more open-ended in terms of exploration, Event Horizon Frontier still maintains most of this despite being a more linear game.

Frontier also has a variant of the original "explore planet" from Event Horizon, which was removed to make way for the new system. In this version you can use whatever ship you want to travel around the void and search for ships, crates and wrecks which are marked on your screen. This version feels a lot more immersive than the original and has much more diversity as any enemy can appear and attack you.

BATTLES:

Battles have also changed an awful lot. While in Event Horizon you would expect to fight between one and twelve enemies at once using your only ship, you instead command a whole fleet of ships which will work with you to defend from enemy ships that want to destroy your starbase. Your starbase is also incredibly modular, and you can choose to upgrade it however you prefer - make it a drone carrier, heavily armour it or add powerful weaponry. Fleet battles are amazing to play in, especially as you can control exactly what ships you use and their armaments.

Daily challenges are also an interesting mechanic. You can fight Jormungandr (space worm) or destroy an alien starbase, which is something I have yet to see in the original game.

PVP:

Frontier has a similar approach to PVP as Event Horizon's current PVP system. You can fight other fleets to earn or lose reputation and gain tokens which can be exchanged for unique rewards such as the Velez and Starbase Mk2 which cannot be obtained in the original game (though Velez exists in EH as a hidden ship). Fleet vs fleet battles are a lot of fun too, and challenge you to build around the gamemode.

SHIPS AND UPGRADES:

Most ships have been taken straight from the original game and can be found after clearing battles in special challenge nodes, though there are a few new additions. The ability to upgrade individual modules after their discovery by enhancing them to "+20" is also something unique to Frontier.

CONTROLS:

One final thing I must mention are the controls. Unless you have a joystick or some similar controller the keyboard controls will be pretty sluggish, forcing you to use low speed ships to retain stability. The mobile version of the game offers a touchscreen joystick which is far more manageable. While keyboard controls are very much playable I would highly recommend you pick up a joystick if you intend to play with fast ships.

There is an awful lot I have not said about the game, so I recommend you try it yourself if you like shooting things and building your own spaceships.

Overall, I would give Event Horizon Frontier a 9/10. Chances are if you have been looking over this game you will probably like it.

After all these years, it's still Robocraft and you can still play it. I don't like what they did to plane controls, the game is still very buggy, and hovers are incredibly janky. But the building is better than it ever has been, and there is still a group of people still playing this game. However, you're mostly going to be fighting with and against AI bots.

It will never be the same as what it was in the past, and the bots I still have might be either totally out of the meta or buggy due to changes to the game breaking them (rip most of my planes) but I am just glad I can still boot the game up and play it.

I recommend this game to anyone who wants to... play Robocraft. I don't recommend this game to anyone who has never played this game before, because even though you can have as many Carbon-6 SMGs as you want now, the grind isn't great and the massive amount of AI controlled bots in every match shatters the dream of Robocraft.

But with all that said, I know that myself and many others would be greatly saddened if this game was to go offline. So that is why I am leaving a positive review, because I can still play this game from my childhood.
