Amazing game. Fun, mindless, cute, relaxing, everything. My wife and I having been playing nonstop just making cute rooms for us, fish tanks, and a few other little tests. Ill update this as I go but overall i 100% recommend. However there are a few things I think would make the game better or need some fixing:

1: Steam workshop seems to be a little buggy in the sense that it doesnt work sometimes or just wont show up
2: I think there should be item linking/tethering and locking so you can move and scale items together or be able to lock items in place.
3: Being able to rotate similarly to the object studio. Getting stuck in only being able to turn half of the space i a little frustrating.
4: Having the option to move things more precisely outside of the object studio i feel would be a great help. Obviously the free hand movement is great for certain things but being able to move something on the xyz axis would be so nice.

Great game tho 9/10

I wanted to like this game so bad. I was living in the very definition of a cope since I spent the same amount of money to buy a girlfriend and take her out to dinner at a nice restaurant. I have been a very big fan of Made in Abyss for a good while and was very much looking forward to getting a new perspective on the universe and hoping to learn about certain artifacts or aspects that were less touched on in the manga/anime. There are a LOT of issues with this game but there are some things that I enjoy and want to speak on those first.

The nostalgia aspect is very nice. I know people clowned on the graphics but that's actually one of my favorite things about the game. It had a very nice PS2 feel and it actually brought me back to playing games in my room all night long. The colors were nice and just very warm and nostalgic for me. I know many people would disagree with that statement but personally it was something I really enjoyed and am glad they leaned into it as much as they did.

Another thing that I really enjoyed was the fact that it ran very smoothly. My computer is good but nothing special and I was streaming with consistent 240 fps, no frame drops, cuts, skips, anything. This is a small thing but it's something great about the game that needs to be recognized. I'm trying so hard to give this game as much credit as I can...

One of my biggest problems is that there is nothing new to experience, but instead just the first 16 chapters retold in a visual novel-like manner. This is one of many nitpicks I have but I'm especially disappointed that the team did not even finish off at the end of chapter 16, which is (in my opinion) one of the best scenes in the entire show/manga since it not only gives much needed support to Ozen's actions, but also beautifully shows the very important connection between Lyza and herself, strengthening the connection to Riko. I assume this was done to save money from having to rig Lyza's model and get the spoken lines in. Understandable, but leaving off right before a very cathartic conclusion of an arc just strikes me the wrong way.

Another thing I’d like to point out is the actual world in the abyss. When you think of the abyss, you imagine a vast, beautiful biome of incredible creatures, beautiful flora, and amazing views. Instead, what you get is a few bland creatures with simple attack patterns and seem to be placed haphazardly using a dartboard. The creatures don't roam or explore their own environment, they stick to their box and attack the player if too close. Instead of being able to walk through the amazing city of Orth, seeing the houses for their glory, you’re stuck in specific rooms that you essentially fast travel to. It really is unfortunate to see such potential of a great steampunk cityscape get underutilized in this game.

This segues into another gripe I have with this game. The fact is it's way too linear for it to even remotely feel like the abyss. An important sliver of the horror in the series is the vastness of the landscape. Something touched upon in the 5th layer especially. In the game, it feels like you’re on a set path where you can't get lost in. At least personally speaking, the idea of getting lost in the abyss and trying to find my way out sounds so intriguing since you get to put yourself in the eyes of Riko and Reg, though this is just a personal preference. I do, however, stand by the fact that the linear aspect removes a large chunk of mystery and horror from the abyss.

I really hoped that I’d see models of the artifacts and whistles in greater detail. I was quite upset when I found out that the physical objects were reduced to jpegs on the screen. I really think it took away all the power that these insanely important items hold. Having Habo come up to me, giving me Lyza’s whistle, would have made much more of an impact than being transported to a VN style cutscene with a white whistle jpeg.

There are a lot of smaller things that don't really fit in a whole category alone but are still important things to mention. These things include: Poor combat system, recycled lines from the anime, terrible controls, boring fetch-quests, story ending too soon, and the cooking system feeling way too underutilized.

I do want to note that this is just the Hello Abyss mode, but being forced to play this before you start another mode that’s advertised is such a hassle. I also did not want to continue further because I knew I wanted to refund the game and get my $60 USD back in my account. If a game like this is going to use the anime story so poorly and as a tutorial type section, it at least should be interesting and even a little challenging.

Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed with this game and I seriously hope the dev team makes real improvements to this game because it’s a great concept and could be such an incredible horror/exploration game.

I've played through vanilla like 40 times without getting bored and the modding community has allowed me to play though so many amazing mods from Necro (1.1) to Exxo Avalon (1.2.4) to Calamity (1.3.6). This game is so good. Buy it or like be gay or somthin idk man
