First off, let me start by saying this is my first Resident Evil game. I've watched others play through 7 and 8, and have seen bits and pieces of the earlier games and got kind of a very vague catch up on the lore, but this is the first one I've actually played for myself.

That said, I want to say that this is the first AAA title I have played in YEARS that actually felt completely finished and extremely well polished. I'm halfway through my second playthrough and have yet to encounter a single noticeable glitch. Had one very brief drop in framerate in the first five minutes, never happened again after that. I should note that I have a pretty high end PC. It's not top of the line but it's up there, so I can't speak to how well it does on lower end machines. The game is challenging but not ridiculous on its standard difficulty for someone who has played vaguely similar games before.

The difference between the two different characters' play style is honestly a lot more fun than I expected, I thought I would get annoyed with that but it actually worked extremely well. The pacing between the scarier sections and the more action-focused ones was phenomenal as well. I'm a big fan of this level of horror game, Dead Space and Cronos being some other favorites of mine. But usually I have to stop and take a break after playing for a while as I get too tense. I didn't have to do that here because of that excellent pacing. Though that did mean that the only thing that could tear me away from the game was the need for sleep for a full day of work the next day.

The game is a little on the short side for the main story, but it has excellent replay value via bonus challenges that can then be used to unlock more weapons, outfits, and other gameplay quirks as well. All in all, I think this is the first AAA title I can recall off the top of my head that I whole heartedly recommend buying if you have even the slightest interest, even at full price.

Saw a lot of people complaining about clunky gameplay. Not really sure what they're on about. I was told it plays similar to Dead Space with a bit of Silent Hill, and I got pretty much exactly what I expected from that description. It's a slow moving game with a slow moving character, you gotta be careful and make every shot count. Par for the course for these types of games, nothing unexpected.

Lots of people complaining about performance. I have a pretty solid PC and it runs like silk. Dunno if I got just the right hardware for it or what but I've had 0 issues here either.

Saw a lot of people complaining about the story being bland. Can't really refute that, but can't really confirm it either as the demo is barely long enough to even start getting into it. What little was there was intriguing to me at least. Overall seems good. Will buy the full game and update review if it doesn't live up.

Phhewww... Where to start with this game? There's a lot to say. The original Hollow Knight is my actual #1 favorite game of all time. There are a lot of things about Silksong that are better than Hollow Knight, but there are some things that are worse as well. Overall, I still think the game is a masterpiece and at a price tag of $20? Easily worth it. I'd still be happy with it if I'd paid a full $70. That said, many of the things that bothered me may be even worse for other players. I won't post any story spoilers in this review, but I may mention a few game mechanics and such. If you want to go in completely blind, read no further.

To start with, most of the other negative reactions I've seen to the game are mostly correct. This game does feel a bit more tedious than HK. I found myself having to grind for money much more in this game, partially because money is now destroyed if it touches spikes or any other hazards, so you end up missing out on lots of cash even if you have the item that pulls it in from far away. Realistic, sure, but annoyingly so. Many of the enemies take more hits than it feels like should be necessary to kill them, particularly the small flying enemies that have ranged attacks are far too good at staying out of your reach to hit them in the first place, and then you have to do so six times to take them down? Again, realistic... But annoying. The worse case of the tedium though is, as many others have complained, bench placement. Many of the game's bosses don't have benches remotely close to them, forcing a long (and sometimes challenging) run each time the boss beats you. The first game also had this problem but wasn't nearly as bad about it as this one is. Mercifully, most of the truly challenging bosses do have benches nearby, but in this game even the "easy" ones are liable to send you running back to them a good handful of times.

Which brings me to my next point: The difficulty. If you found Hollow Knight too easy, this won't be a downside for you. This game is absolutely ROCK hard. As a veteran of Hollow Knight who has played it about a dozen times, this game is much MUCH harder than that one. In particular, the difficulty curve hits hard and fast right at the beginning of the game. If you found Hollow Knight to be just the right difficulty, or even too hard, you best be prepared for a rough time with this one.

Something I haven't seen many other people complain about, I feel like the crest/tool system was a little too limiting in the playstyle. Having the slots for what tools and buffs you can equip also tied to the combat style and not being able to change them individually was a bummer for me. Compared to the Hollow Knight charm system being able to create virtually any build you like as long as you can fit all the charms you need, this tool system felt much more strict.

With that out of the way, the good news: It was a given that the art, story, and music were all going to be top notch, but Team Cherry has absolutely raised the bar here. Hornet having a voice and being able to actually converse with NPCs was a welcome change and her personality was very interesting. And the art and music well... Like I said earlier, masterpieces.

And then the combat. Rock hard? Yes. Extremely satisfying? Also yes. The store page's description of acrobatic combat is absolutely on point. Hornet is a nimble and speedy combatant and most of her opponents can match her in that regard, resulting in boss fights that are lightning fast requiring incredible reflexes and near perfect positioning to get through, but MAN does it feel cool when you pull it off.

TL;DR, absolute masterpiece of a game with a few drawbacks. I don't know if it will replace the original as my all time favorite game, but it's REAL close. If you enjoyed the first one and don't mind some extra challenge, you'll like this one as well.

Excellent game, surprisingly well made and smooth for an early access title. Have yet to encounter a single glitch, and the movement system IMO is a masterpiece. Weird to figure out but once you get it down even a little bit it is incredibly satisfying to get moving quick with it.

I am personally not a huge fan of the roguelike genre, as I dislike replaying content repeatedly. White Knuckle is only partially an exception to this, as the very novel gameplay makes up for that in part. But if you severely dislike replaying the same levels this game is likely not for you as it is tough as nails and you WILL be seeing those early levels many many times.

TL;DR: Has the same drawbacks (IMO) as any roguelike, but partly makes up for them with interesting gameplay and is an absolute banger of a game otherwise. Definitely recommend if you have even the slightest interest.

A major disappointment for me. I was a big fan of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen. It was a big favorite of mine despite a few flaws. This game manages to take basically everything that was bad about DD:DA and make it slightly worse, while offering basically no improvements. The few improvements that do exist are extremely minor. The pawns don't do a good enough job to make up for the lack of versatility in arisen vocations, and even if they did the more specialized vocations in this one are less fun anyway. The game doesn't really feel any bigger than the previous title, if anything it feels smaller. The original game wasn't too small at the time but that was over ten years ago. The story ranges from rushed to full on nonsensical in places and does not offer a very satisfying ending.

There are some good spots. The combat is still fun if you can find a vocation you like, and a couple of encounters were very interesting. The first time I encountered a Dullahan was a blast and I was disappointed the game didn't have more similar encounters.

TL;DR, if you didn't like the first dragon's dogma, this one will not change your mind. If you sort of liked the first one, you probably won't like this one. If you REALLY liked the first game, then you may be able to squeeze some small amount of enjoyment out of this one, but get it on sale and be prepared for it not to live up to the previous title. And if you never tried the original dragon's dogma... Go play that one first and go from there. It's a better game anyway.

This is one of those rare cases where I wish steam reviews had a "maybe" option. I love this game. It's a great game. And I will continue to play it. However, there is some ambiguity as to its genre. The physics engine is awesome, the gameplay is fun, but this game is not what many people would consider a roguelite.

I had initially stated that this game was not at all a roguelite and was a full on roguelike, but some people left some comments correcting me on this, stating that this game does technically qualify as a roguelite. What it does not feature is any kind of permanent progression system, which most roguelites (At least all the ones I've played) have.

So if that's what you're looking for, a game where you die but manage to keep some sort of permanent progression, this game is not for you. If you're fine with the fact that you start over from the beginning, having gained absolutely nothing except hopefully some knowledge on how to avoid dying the same way again, then buy this game. I'll be happy to change this review to a positive one in the event that either some permanent progression features are added to the game, or the description is updated to be more clear that it does not feature any such system.

Again, this is a great game. If you thought the game looked good as described, and the fact that there's no permanent progression doesn't bother you, absolutely get it. I'm only putting this review as a negative because the game is not as I expected it to be based on the description, and I want to avoid other people falling into that same situation.

I have paid $60 for games that I beat in mere hours. Games that left me incredibly dissatisfied. Games that had pretty 3d graphics, and not much else.

Not Hollow Knight. This is a $15 indie game that puts a lot of triple A titles to shame. It has the gorgeous artwork, and the gameplay to go along with it. In the interest of not writing a novel about how much I love this game, here's a quick list of my favorite parts.

Pros:
Combat & Challenge:
The combat in this game is quick, precise, and requires a lot of focus. One wrong move and you'll be taking at least one hit for sure. This is especially true for the bosses, most of whom will require lightning fast reflexes to avoid taking damage. The challenge level is quite great however, as you can afford to take a few hits and keep going on the mandatory bosses. It's not until you get into the optional bosses that the top level of skill is required just to survive. These bosses will test your resolve, but most of the worst ones are at least forgiving in the way of a nearby checkpoint.

Optional content:
Speaking of optional bosses, this game has a PLETHORA of optional stuff to do. Many times I found myself a little secret passage, expecting to find another charm or sellable item, only to discover that there was an entire region of the game back there that was entirely optional. By my estimations, anywhere from around 25 - 50% of the game world and content is entirely optional... And has a fitting boost to the challenge.

Time:
If you're one of those people like me who has a tendency to beat games in a few hours and never touch them again, this game is for you. It took me nearly 20 hours just to complete the basic storyline (Albeit taking my time and being relatively explorative) and an additional nearly 15 hours to complete the true ending. Beating every single boss and getting every collectible will take even longer than that, and that's before including the free DLCs they added later.

Art:
Pretty much everyone talks about this, especially professional critics, so I'll be short. Game is friggin' beautiful. As a side note, the game has an extremely impressive attention to detail both in the art and in the general gameplay.

Cons: Unfortunately it isn't quite perfect. There are a few downsides as well.
Bugs:
No, not the characters. The game is plagued by a few glitches, though most of them are minor. Text occsionally spazzes out, causing the player to sometimes miss certain bits of info. This only happened to me twice in my 35 hours thus far. I cannot confirm whether or not it's always on the same conversations. Using the Dream Nail on a certain character (Leg Eater) results in what appears to be a variable name rather than the text you're supposed to get, and finally the occasional lag spike.
UPDATE: All of the above glitches appear to have been fixed now. I've played through this game several times since my initial review without encountering a single glitch.

Challenge:
A few certain bosses, one in particular, felt challenging more due to cheap tactics rather than a requirement in skill. Still, this is rare and these bosses are all entirely optional, and can be challenged later in the storyline from when you first encounter them for a much easier fight.
UPDATE 2: This also no longer appears to be the case. Although I didn't see anything about it in the patch notes, the boss in question appears to have received a very minor adjustment that makes it feel much more fair. I have no further complaints about this game. 10/10 literally my new favorite game of all time.

All in all, I cannot recommend this game enough. It's a beautiful little gem and I will be keeping a close eye out for more games by this developer. If you like dark storytelling and metroidvanias, this is the game for you.
