Sadly, the game is in a broken state on Linux, Multiplayer is completely inaccessible, the game can't close itself, forcing either you to completely shut down Steam if you so dare make the mistake of shutting the game down from inside the game, or tabbing out and closing the game from Steam directly.

So these issues aren't happening to me anymore. Changing my review to an overall positive.

Fun game, however barely works on Linux in my experience.

This review isn't for the game, it's fantastic, but for the port itself.
The current underlying engine this is using, KEX, has a ton of issues, main few being that
* The mouse speed is tied to the framerate.
* Multiplayer netcode is just... eh.
* The WAD Browser is quite heavily scuffed.

Overall, buy this just for the IWADs or if you got a friend on console that you want to play with.
Otherwise, please look into and select one of these sourceports below. You'll also get my personal say on each.

* Woof: Very good for casual, yet engine accurate way of playing the older games. It also supports features from this port like the weapon carousel and the Remix OST without having to modify the extras.wad file.

* Nugget Doom: Literally Woof with some extra features, worth trying out if you like Woof.

* Crispy Doom: Good for casual play, but can only do Vanilla and Limit Removing maps. A ton of features from here are also present in Woof/Nugget Doom.

* DSDA-Doom: Very, very good way of playing the older games that are extremely accurate to current and older versions of id Tech 1, among it's forks like Boom and MBF. It also has a hardware renderer that looks extremely good. Current version (28.2 of the time of the review) has a sound bug on complevels 2, 3, and 4. Includes a good amount of speedrunning utilities if you are into that realm.

* Nyan Doom: DSDA-Doom but with some QoL & visual features. It also brings back the ENDOOM screen to the port. Look into this if you liked Woof, Nugget, or Crispy, but as well as DSDA-Doom.

* GZDoom: Okay way of playing the older games casually, just do not expect vanilla gameplay. Settings menu is kinda bad and the defaults are horrible. Tons of mod support due to its engine features, though.

* LZDoom: Basically GZDoom but it can run on older hardware and is lacking features. I suggest looking at the ports above (Minus GZDoom) for ports that'll run on old hardware, though.

But ain't gonna be one of those people that give it a negative because they are just bad at it. I know this is a good game, and I'm not gonna put it down for my lack of skill. When I could actually have fun with it and wasn't grinding my balls off on a certain level, it was one of the best games I've ever played. If you think you'll like it, try it out!

Normally I'd put a "x food out of a Cheezit" for a review, but I need to overall put some words into it for once.
The general gameplay is good, guns feel nice, movement feels nice.
I'm fine with the XP system overall, prefer Payday 2's system, but I don't exactly hate the new one.
The servers before launch, were perfectly fine. And launch day and a couple of days after launch, it was unusable completely. Currently I can at least get into a lobby.
Though, one gripe I do have, is the performance. I am getting stutters every now and then AFTER I turned down my settings, and otherwise it was completely unplayable. Mind you, I got a 3070 Ti with a Ryzen 7 and 64 GB of RAM, and the game is on an NVMe SSD. So there is no reason for the stutters at all, even though it's on UE4.
Overall, a half-full bag of Cheezits out of a Cheezit as of current.
