Pretty horrible implementation. The extra graphical details do not make up for the lack of basic game options, such as the ability to turn off a horribly implemented and opaque turn timer.

So, with the upcoming machine / synth DLC I thought I would submit a review to this game. Why only now? Because I took a leave of absence from this game while waiting for said DLC, and used the time to go back and try the other 4X games in my library... which comprise almost every other space 4X game released in the last 10 years.

Stellaris is hands down the best space 4X game out there right now. It is marginally better without mods, but once you add mods in it becomes amazing. With the new DLC and free patch arriving alongside it I imagine the game will become even more playable without mods.

The one major downside to the game (the sector UI) is easily fixed via mods, or through slight adaptations to your playstyle. That said, it is a nice game mechanic if you can get around it's quirks.

If you haven't tried out Stellaris, or if you have but gave up without trying mods.. checkout my mod collection; I didn't write any of them, but I've currated them to be a base collection that makes the game very enjoyable and replayable. steam://openurl/http://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=961598760
