By far one of the best games I have ever played. A huge step up from the already excellent Sniper Elite 3. Much bigger maps, secret passages all over, just all around a great game. 10/10

Preface: I have a little over a hundred games in my library, and I've only reviewed the few that really stand out (around 5 of them). I only say this because I may not be as well or long spoken as most reviewers and I feel like the previous statement helps show my feelings.
Review: I LOVE this game. It has everything I want out of a survial game(my favorite genre). The basic human needs are fairly realistic and at times very hard to fufill, and it has great resource management. At the beginning of the game you have a windfall of low level items which at first seems great Ex. "Oh cool A chest with 6 guns in it!" Within about an hour of gameplay you will have either burned through the weapons or cannabalized them for research. Eventually you can nearly automate certain aspects of production and research, but you'll probably die/lose waaaaay before that. Even when you are flush with food, medicine, and weaponry, your generator is forever dying so you have to scurry around the increasingly dangerous ruins of mars to scrounge up scrap and chips to research better power cores. And with two trees of tech (which doesn't sound like a lot, but it is) to keep up with you have to manage two different resource pools, one which you can farm or mine for, and another that requires mass slaughtering of infected beasts and men. After about a week you'll be fat and full of snacks and soda but you can die from a minor infection while on the short train ride back to your safehouse, or even worse, open a bathroom stall in a fairly safe area and be smashed to smithereens by a brute (Those are the first two ways I died, but have been followed by increasingly scarier deaths).
On top of all that, you have to manage your warmth and oxygen levels when you are in most areas which is a real struggle. After a certain point you have to make some serious decisions example: You see a room full of candy wrappers and medicine chests, but in the way is a spider and a weak mutant. Not hard to deal with. BUT you know that you are running low on power charges, and if your flashlight goes out this shopping mall will be your tomb. By the same token you have a broken leg and are bleeding out and you know that chest might have the cast or bandages you need if you need to turn tail and flee. What do you do? It doesn't matter because in the 10 seconds you were deciding you get torn open from behind. You try to dodge, but uh oh, your leg is broken so you can only walk! You whirl around and fire your shotgun 5 times into your foe. He splatters across the ground. Relief washes over you, but you are now crippled and gushing blood like a stuck pig. The blood and gun blasts alerts the spider and the mutant. As you get ready to face your death, guns blazing, you die from blood loss. Game over. *or you die from hypothermia, or suffocation, starvation, dehydration, or infection ect ect*
So now you're dead. You can load an earlier save! Whoopee! OR not. Which is another excellent feature. The game gives you the choice of difficulty(nothing new here) and permadeath mode! Now, I'm guessing 90% of people won't tinker with these but if, like me, you want to be afraid and high on adrenaline while you play because you put in 20 hours of gameplay and every door you open might be your last, then ramp up those settings, baby. Side note: I'm not particularly fast or good at these games, but I like them to be really hard because that's way more exciting and realistic.

As to negatives: None (at least none worth mentioning) I've seen people complaining(a lil bit) about graphics, music, and some things not being explained well enough. Personally I don't find any of these flaws to be real. The graphics aren't super HD, but that doesn't really matter with a top down game. Everything is very very clear and easy to distinguish and the lighting and view are very good as well. As far as music, I don't notice it at all. If you're activley listening to the music instead of playing the game, you aren't playing on a hard enough difficulty :D. And as far as things being explained, it is ALL explained at the beginning in bite sized pieces. You find great bits of stories around the game too. If you're paying even a little bit of attention to the story, you'll find really rewarding data logs all over the place. My favorite being a log from someone named "Martin" To his friend who is sent to scavenge for some equipment in the mine. He is warned up and down not to veer off the path to sate his lust for choco pie. You'll find more logs, detailing how this guy (of course) veered off his task, following his nose for pie. Eventually....well, let's just say you find him and his pie. No spoilers, but it's rewarding to follow stories like these.

All in all, I've played close to 40 hours in three days and I'm about as far as I was at hour 10 because I keep effing dying (:D). But that could have been easily avoided. So I give this game a 9(ish) out of 10. Which is how I would rate skyrim and Fallout New Vegas....maybe Terraria too. All excellent games. I'm not super far into the game, so I don't know if it will yield the hundreds of hours of gameplay like those games did for me, but I wouldn't be shocked if it came close. A piece of advice for when (not if) you get the game, be careful. And most of all, expect to be surprised. Most of the times I died I thought I was nigh invincible right up until my head was squashed. Anyways, GET TO IT!!!

One of my favorite games ever. It really seems to capture warfare in the time period. It's a great game if you like either real, captivating RTS, where even a victory, if not handled well can lead to the collapse of an empire, OR if you like watching thousands of digital men hacking each other apart with sword and spear.

Even though It may not look like I have a lot of hours at the time of this review, I gave easily weeks of my life to this game when it came out on disk. It was my first real jump into RTS and after all those years of playing other games, it still stands shoulder to shoulder with it's newer counterparts like Shogun and Medieval. Don't get rome II though, it's garbage.

Excellent game! Each track creates new strategic obstacles, which is what stops any one tower being too powerful. It can be as hard or easy, as intense or laid back as you want. I used to play this game online as a flash game and I gotta say it really is as good as you can hope.

If I had to have 1 game to play with friends it would be this one. Solo is also very fun, but as we all know : The commentary of friends makes all games better

Far and away the best game I've ever played ( and I've played a lot of games). If you are wondering whether or not to buy it " Eh, I don't know if it's for me..." DO IT! DO IT NOW!

This game is so good. I played Dwarf Fortress for a long time, but I'm both color blind and lazy, so I never progressed far, to say the least. The game is well on the way to be much, much better.
