BE-A Walker is a sidescrolling re-enactment of the plot of James Cameron's Avatar. You pilot a bipedal mech across the surface of an alien planet blasting and stomping on the natives as you go. Except you do that exact same thing.... repeatedly. For the whole game.

This game is definitely fun for a bit, but every mission is pretty much the same, broken up occasionally with a 'walk through the base without stepping on the blind scientists' mission or 'walk through a minefield' mission, which mostly just slow the game down, without improving it much.

Additionally there are some questionable design decisions here, namely:
1. The walker CANNOT turn around, in any way. This means if an enemy gets behind you (because they spawned there or you stepped over them) your only means of defeating them is to walk backwards and attempt to step on them, which feels totally silly. Allowing the top of the walker to rotate to face backwards would deal with this oddity, and allow for some kind of defence or ambush scenario where you could shoot at enemies approaching from either side.
2. For an alien jungle planet, it sure seems odd that the entire surface IS PERFECTLY CAR PARK FLAT. This heavily contributes to the sense of monotony this game has. With absolutely no terrain variation whatsoever, you really feel like you are walking the same area killing the same enemies repeatedly. Why no pits, hills, rises or obstructions? You have a walking mech, but you might as well be in a tank given the fact the game takes place on a grassy road anyway.
3. The mech's main laser weapon alternates between shooting at the foreground and background lanes with each shot. This means that if you want to shoot two enemies in the foreground, you have to shoot one, then waste a shot shooting the background for no reason, then shoot what you actually wanted. Which would be fine, if your weapons didn't constantly overheat and you weren't being swarmed by enemies on all sides.

Neat game concept overall. Previously I rated this as not recommended and have pointed a ton of flaws in the game's execution, which I will leave for reference. Ultimately the game is actually quite fun and I have played it through more than once. The potential is definitely here with this game, it has a strong mechanical foundation and a cool premise, so I reacted poorly to it initially because I was disappointed with what might have been. I would recommend the game in the end, although its probably not for everyone.

First off I want to say that I loved this game, but it won't be for everyone.

The aim of the game is to go out to a location, steadily clear your way through it to find an upgrade chip and then use the upgrade chips on the machinery in your base to improve your gear. I can see how some people would find this repetitive but I never found it that way. I was constantly looking for the next upgrade because I couldn't wait to see what the next item looked like.

On the topic of items and upgrades, there are only 4 ranged weapons in the game (pistol, shotgun, smg, plasma launcher) and quite a few melee weapons, but only a couple that are viable for the whole game. The upgrades are largely linear, but some upgraded parts provide a unique feature (like a laser sight to help aim your gun). More weapons would have been nice, but is far from necessary.

One thing I was a big fan of in this game is the fact that clearing out an area actually has some affect on the game and isn't immediately forgotten. Each area on the map has an infection/infestation level and the higher it gets the tougher the enemies there are and the more likely they will launch an attack on your reactor. The infection level was a fun resource management feature, where you had to weigh up whether you wanted to push for the next upgrade chip in one area, or go back and subdue the rising infection in another to prevent an attack.

All in all the game was really enjoyable. If you aren't put off by some repetition you can get an impressively large number of hours out of this. I was somewhat dissapointed with the ending, but otherwise can't fault the game.

First off, when you log out of this game you fall asleep, and when you log in you wake up which I found to be a fun little feature to this game.
SO I bought this game, installed it and picked a random server.
Within literally 1 second of me logging in, before I had even clicked the "wake up" button, I was already getting my head smashed in by a naked and well-endowed man with a large rock.
On to the actual game though, it really is fun to play especially with friends. The community I found was also suprisingly helpful when I asked my epic noob questions in the chat like "how do I get rocks?" and "how do I open my inventory?".
Shame that friendliness didn't carry over to when you actual meet the people...
Fun game though, cool base building mechanics and lots of naked, rock swinging fun to be had by all.

Excellent game. Lots to do and simple graphics enables even low end computers to run it smoothly.
