I’m in my 40s and have been in IT since the early 2000s. I started out as a systems administrator working with on prem infrastructure, going back to Windows Server 2000 and Exchange. I earned my MCSA, picked up networking along the way, and eventually completed my CCNA and Security+.
I’ve been at an MSP for over 10 years and have worn just about every hat. Over the past several years I shifted into sales, presales, and vCIO work. While I value the business exposure, I genuinely miss hands on technical work, especially in security.
I’m at a point where I am ready for a change. The culture at my current company has shifted significantly over time, and it no longer aligns with what I am looking for long term. Rather than just change companies and stay in the same lane, I am considering using this as an opportunity to pivot toward security or cloud security.
