The best way I can describe this game is like a toxic relationship. You want to love them, but you know in the end, they're just going to hurt you. However, for some reason, you keep coming back. The responses to legitimate criticisms of the game usually are, "Well, that's xcom, baby!" This just enables these crappy mechanics that hold back an otherwise great game from being just that.

Pros:
(Tactical) - If tactics and strategy are things you love, this game has plenty of that! Making the wrong move can have deadly consequences. Planning ahead can make you feel like rambo when all your shots are pulled off.
(Graphics) - The game still holds up pretty well! Looks really nice on a decent PC.
(Addicting) - Can't really pinpoint exactly what keeps me hooked on the game, other than it's satisfying when you complete a mission with all your soldiers alive.
(Customization) - You can spend hours customizing your soldiers in pretty great detail. Set up their load-outs the way you want, as well as building up your command ship to your specifics.

Cons: (I'll try not to sound too nit-picky, but man there was a lot that irritated me lol)
(RN f'ing G) - I promise, these soldiers make Storm Troopers look like Chris Kyle. You can be standing right in front of an enemy, but only have a 55% chance to hit. Feeling lucky? Well, you'll miss. Get used to spamming saves.
(Unfair Enemy) - Remember how I said you couldn't hit something even if you were standing right in front of it? Well, the enemy doesn't. They can be halfway across the map and get a one hit critical kill on your soldier without breaking a sweat. There's also the fact that they technically get double the turns, in a turn based game. For example, if you're exploring an area, and the enemy sees you, the game pauses your turn, and lets the enemy move to where they want. Which is closer to YOU. So, when you're done moving your guys, they can just walk right up and punch your head off. Good times.
(Annoying Pauses) - There's a higher up who's in constant communication with you throughout the game. This man can be EXTREMELY ANNOYING during missions, constantly pausing the game to complain that people are dying or that a reactor is getting destroyed. Well, maybe if you let me get back to the game we could possibly save them/accomplish the mission? In addition, when the enemy begins a turn for the first encounter of their squad, there's a cinematic that plays, and each of their shots takes about 3 sec to commence. It's not a huge deal, but man it can drag and get annoying.
