I consider them (both the 'classic' variant where it's kinda 'anything goes' like in the Starbound mod, and my more fleshed-out and limited version now) to be an open species and concept, so I don't mind anyone who wants to make OCs and their own ideas of how this stuff works. I think it's fair to say there's so little canon attached to the version of them that's out there now, there's not even enough of an idea to 'steal', and it's definitely not stepping on my toes if you wanted to make something with your version~

I don't mind if you write up your own version of what familars are!

I actually created the mod before I had a good understanding of what I wanted them to be - their nature, powers, limitations, where/what they came from, the meaning of details like glow color and what they could look like. It's been pretty solid in my mind for a while as I work on my own game involving them (very early work though, so there's no info out there yet) but I don't want to retroactively go and change the mod to fit with my current vision of them.
