While a smaller experience, and i think I will still always favor the original game, subnautica: below zero is an amazing gaming experience. It takes so many systems from the original game and adds a ton to them. So, the game is shorter and ultimately less packed with content. In my personal opinion, this doesn't matter, and it doesn't take away from the fun I've been able to have with below zero.

For the story, the game immediately drops you into an exciting mystery regarding the player character's missing sister. I won't spoil anything but I promise the story doesn't disappoint, and while subnautica and below zero have been praised for their survival mechanics (which i'll dig into more in a moment) They also deserve a lot of praise for their storytelling. Both games have an excellent story. And below zero defeats subnautica in this way tenfold. Don't get confused, I adore the original game's story and the Sea Emperor's monologue at the end of the game always brings a tear to my eye. But Below zero manages to tell a story about friendship, family, and understanding that they just couldn't with what they were working with in the original game. It's a great story and i'm likely going to replay the whole game from start to finish again just for that.

For the survival mechanics, this is another thing that both games did excellently with. The resource gathering, hostile creature avoiding, and stats like O2 and Hunger management were always on point with subnautica. I see below zero's changes, in this way, as not an improvement. I am in no way saying that the changes and additions made in below zero make it worse, it is just a different way. And Both work for their respective games. Either way, I love the survival mechanics in below zero and still found enjoyment in the more grindy parts of the game, such as gathering materials for my big base.

And my third and least important part of the game in my opinion, progression. The game progression, I think, is the only part where below zero fell behind subnautica. With the main jumps in progression through the game being, seatruck depth upgrades, prawn suit, and building the special bridge that i won't spoil. In subnautica, progression from the shallow biomes, to the deep biomes, to the lost river, to the lava zone felt smooth. This may be due to how much more exciting the story was for me, but constant story progress felt great until they were stunted by sudden block. In subnautica the story felt like a complement to the progression, as a further incentive to progress deeper. But in Below zero, it ultimately felt like the sole reason. While this wasn't the case, there was benefits to progress, it still felt like that. While i think the progression was the one place they took a step back from the original subnautica; it is in no way bad. The deeper biomes were still fun to explore for the first time. And if you were like me you drowned three times on accident in the deep lily pads while trying to progress the game, even though you could've just gone there later with more upgrades to the seatruck. My point was, the progression is still super fun.

In conclusion the game is absolutely awesome. I rate it 9/10 and believe it to be worth every cent. While it will never have as many as my 450 hours on subnautica, i'll definitely reach 100 or more and love nearly all of it. Thanks for reading.

A great game, so much content that sometimes it gets dizzying. What the dev team could do with this game is scary for the sheer amount of stuff they could put into a game so relatively simple in design. And the game isn't only good for the amount of content, anyone could shove endless content out if given enough time, but it's all *good* content. You don't get 226 hours of unique, good gameplay from any old game. But you do get it from Terraria, an absolute masterpiece.

Risk of rain 2 is masterpiece of a rogue-type game. The game's systems are relatively simple and easy to understand, yet remain very challenging. I couldn't praise it enough. So much reasons to play for hours. I've owned the game for two days and sunk 16 amazing hours into it. Already among one of my all-time favorite games ever.
