A great early access title in everything but name and is waiting for its Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 moment to truly shine.
Do not buy this game in its current state if you don't want an early access title!

This is a great game in the making but has not reached the finished mark just yet.
These are the general problems in my opinion, if these are problems that would piss you off, then wait until the game is actually finished.

The story is good but feels rushed and a severe lack of end game content besides the main story, for example there are no side quests in Pripyat and only 3 quests in total in that area, and that is a liberal interpretation of what a quest is.
Everything lacks balance, the gunplay, the economy, the AI, stats. If there is a game mechanic then it lacks balance.

The current AI system is a complete mess, the spawn bubble for NPCs is about 100 meter from the player which is way to close.
They don't use proper tactics in combat, mainly walking towards you slowly with godlike aim and if they feel like it they will do it while moving from cover to cover, but still slowly.

The game also likes to crash, softlock main quests, get serious performance issues so you have to restart the game, unclear graphics settings, like a AA setting that is decoupled from the rest of AA settings so you can max it out and it eats performance but have no AA active.
You can fall thru the floor and have to restart the game.

When you reach over 6 days in game time in the game the animation for ADS will stutter like crazy. (the game has about 150 hrs of completionist content, so not hard to pass that mark)

So your experience with the game will be between some annoying bugs here and there to constant fighting with the game to even be able to complete it
My experience where somewhere in the middle, quite bad at points but not catastrophic like for some other people.
So if you are not prepared for some true good old fashioned PC-gaming jank then steer clear until they gave fixed the game.

It has some brain dead modern design conventions, especially in the UI.
You have the obligatory arrows to see which enemy is about to spot you and your compass i blinking red if you have aggro on something.
This just ruins the immersion of a game where immersion is key. I don't want to know if there is enemy combatants in a building, I want to experience that myself. I want to be able to make mistakes in how careful I am in any given situation. Moving quick thru an area should be a risk vs reward deal, Do I risk entering that building looking for loot like a maniac or should I be more careful?

Like imagine entering a building, maybe a large complex that has several floors and suddenly when you enter the building you gain aggro of something on some floor, now the compass is blinking red and I know that there will be something to fight in this building and when it is dealt with and the compass is no longer red, I know that I am safe.
Not only does that remove all the tension, it also ruins the immersion because you know that somehow that damn AI saw me thru some walls, giving away the broken state of the AI.

I have removed those elements with some mods and my experience improved significantly and I've have lost basically nothing, these UI elements are entirely pointless and should be removed from the game.

The game also has some severe graphics issues, the game can look downright ugly at times, which is a shame since overall the game is quite beautiful.

The English voice acting has a few good performances and a majority of mediocre and horrendous.

Lacking several features from the old games, like no night vision googles in a game where a lot of things take place in dilapidated buildings without light and just taking place during the night.

Now to the good stuff.

Good mod support even tho the official mod tools have not been released yet.
When the official tools are released, get ready for giant mods with huge overhauls so you can customize the game entirely to your liking, tho expect that this will take a couple of years until it we are at that stage.

The world is just so detailed and amazing, just a pleasure to explore.

When the game is beautiful it truly shines.

Solid gunplay with solid sound design.

A good story with good character.

A fun gameplay loop.

The developers have promised to actually has acknowledge the issues with the game and has promised to fix the game and implement missing features.
In a couple of weeks they will publish a roadmap for the game.
I just hope they will follow thru on their promises.

If you still are interested in the Stalker experience and are able to stomach all these issues, then go ahead if not, wait for its Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 moment in a year or two.
