Honestly, as a base game I would say DayZ has a lot of potential. It is the kind of game however that I wouldn't buy currently at full price. If this is on sale then it's definitely worth buying. DayZ is the kind of game that your enjoyment depends fully on the server, community and whatever mods (if any) you are using.
I've honestly had so much fun with this game though so I'll always recommend it!
