This game is a pretty worthy followup to Battle for Bikini Bottom and is definitely in Top 3 SpongeBob games for me. It starts off a little too simple and easy for my liking, but picks up when there's more enemy variety and when there are more abilities available to the player.

The costumes all look great and are fun to collect, but if you don't care about cosmetics then there may not be a lot here to hook you. The levels are pretty straightforward and short if you're not going out of your way for the optional collectibles, and there aren't any other unlockable bonuses besides the costumes (and achievements, I suppose).

As someone who hasn't really been following new episodes of the show that closely for about 10 years, I was pleasantly surprised by the charm and wit in the game's writing. Not every joke lands, and the cutscenes in particular are paced very strangely, but there's tons of references to the show's first 3 seasons and I got a laugh out of some of the game's original jokes as well.

Cosmic Shake is just good, solid, simple fun, and kept me busy for a good week combing through every world to get all the costumes. Fans of SpongeBob, particularly chad Battle for Bikini Bottom enjoyers, should get a kick out of this game, and I'd recommend it to them. If you're not personally attached to BFBB, but still enjoy 3D platformers, I say check that game out instead, or wait for this one to go on sale first.

This game was sent to us from an alternate universe where service games are actually good and not filled with predatory money-seeking garbage. Great game with even better developers. Rock and Stone, brother.

Quick disclaimer / TLDR: I only really recommend this game to people that enjoyed the original two games, like me, since I'm pretty sure that's the audience the developers were making this game for. The story and characters were my biggest sources of enjoyment from this game, but that's only because I played the previous games growing up, and I don't think newcomers will really be able to follow along or get the same level of appreciation that I did out of it.

In terms of actual gameplay, I'm honestly pretty mixed on Two Realms. This game is more focused on small puzzle-oriented rooms rather than the action-adventure obstacle course levels of the previous games. You don't ever get access to any additional weapons or gadgets as you progress, and there are no boss battles during climactic story moments. Drawing is also very underutilized, which was weird to see, since it was the main gimmick of the previous games and is what the series was named after in the first place. With that being said, the puzzle levels did grow on me the more I played it, and they do get legitimately interesting and challenging later on in the game; it was just somewhat strange to see such a large departure from what the previous games offered.

Some smaller complaints that I had were that the physics felt somewhat cheap and clunky, and were reminiscent of old Flash browser games. I did eventually get more used to the physics the more I played, but there were still moments where it was frustrating to deal with. Without getting into spoilers, the game also drops hints that there will eventually be more to come in the future, but the future of this series has always been notoriously uncertain (this is the first game in 11 years btw). The developers themselves have basically flat out said that the future of this series depends on the sales performance of this game, which leaves me feeling uneasy since the gameplay is so controversial among fans.

With all those concerns being laid out, I'd still say that I enjoyed this game overall. As I said earlier, the gameplay did eventually warm up on me and I began to have more fun with the puzzles, even if I did miss the action-adventure style of the previous games. The artstyle and music are as good as they've always been, and I enjoyed getting to see this world and cast of characters again, and hope to see more in the future. Going off the developers' earlier comments, they seem to be interested in remastering the older games and creating a bigger-scaled sequel to this game, which I would personally love to see.

If you have fond memories of the DS games, you really can't go wrong with this game for only $10, and I'd say go ahead and show your support for the developers. For anyone else, I would say wait and see if they make remasters of the original games first, and see how those turn out.

Just putting this here because this game absolutely does not deserve the low review scores it's getting from critics online. Other than some technical issues (that will hopefully get patched out in the future), this is a beautiful remaster of a classic game.

This remaster is very faithful to the original game, for better or for worse. It's a bit of a missed opportunity that they didn't address some of the issues of the original game in this new version. Despite that, the pros easily outweigh the cons, and it's great to have an easily accessible way of playing this game again on modern hardware. Highly recommend to anyone that liked the original version, or just fans of 3D platformers in general.

changing review back to positive. suffered from an invasion of rampant cheater AI for many many years but they added some fixes about a year ago and it seems to be pretty much a non-issue now from my experience. the game's matchmaking service still isn't great and tends to crumble under the weight of the dozens of maps they lazily add every year. when you get a good server with balanced teams though, it's perhaps the greatest game ever made. overall it's okay.
