Ils se rendirent jusqu’à Mingan et descendirent en suivant la côte jusqu’à Portneuf, sans être inquiétés. Là, ils furent interceptés par des garde-côte et, dans l’altercation qui s’ensuivit, le père Michel blessa gravement le commis qui les avait arraisonnés. Malheureux, il promit de se rendre à Beaupré, si Dieu voulait bien laisser la vie au commis.
