Played Civ for a looooong time.

Game isn't horrible. Certainly feels like lots of easily made content was left out to make you buy it in the future.

1. Random civilizations that are foreign to most Civ games. Seriously, no China, no Germany, America's only leader is Harriet Tubman, an individual that would better be a Great Person, not a leader of a civilization. (Not even historically accurate.) And very few male leaders btw.
2. Weird Age system where your Civilization changes. I understand that civilizations changed and evolved, just not the norm for any other Civ game.
3. Tech and civic tree is odd (not too much of a complaint, but a departure from orthodox civ-style).
4. UI is definitely a problem. Not only does it look made for a console, but even hovering on a button, the tool tip disappears and reappears everytime you move the mouse, even if youre hovering over this big button. It's all very grey and bland, square, just dead.
5. Game settings: map size options are tiny, small, and standard. There are also no descriptions or images for how big it may be, recommended players, etc. Details that were on the previous game, that all they had to do was copy and paste into the new game.

Basically, this is my biggest issue: things seem intentionally left out in order to bait people into buying the DLC's and the typical practice of releasing 3/4 way finished games, knowing they can just patch it. They sold advanced access, meaning the game is finished and ready to play ($30 extra). How long has this game been in production? Civ 6 came out in 2016; that's 9 years ago. I think there was too much thought into "How can we be diverse and drive the Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity vehicle with this game?" more than protecting the legacy that Civilization games are. Seriously dude, Harriet Tubman? Harriet Tubman as the leader of US? Not George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Roosevelt, none of the classic REAL leaders. No, let's take an important social movement figure and make her the leader?

Absolutely one of the best games I've ever played! Even better coop! Rent a server and find friends! It's so worth it.
