I’ve been playing GTA V since its original release on Xbox 360 in 2013, and later on the Xbox One and Xbox One S, which I played on until early 2025. My playtime has decreased over the years, but the Enhanced Edition on PC brought me back in August 2025. The story mode remains a highlight. While its story isn’t as dark or emotionally gripping as Grand Theft Auto IV, it fits perfectly with a satirical, Los Angeles–style world. The characters are memorable, the missions varied, and the writing sharp, keeping the story engaging even after a decade.

Moving to PC has breathed new life into the game for me. The graphical improvements, smoother performance makes Los Santos feel fresher than ever. The enhanced visuals makes the world seem new and enjoyable again. GTA Online still has its moments of fun. Running heists, completing missions with friends, or just causing chaos in free roam remains entertaining, and the social, emergent aspects of the online world continue to make it unique.

That said, GTA Online has become increasingly frustrating. Many longtime players, myself included, feel that the introduction of high-cost items like the Mk II Oppressor marked a turning point. Vehicles and other content priced in the millions, combined with Shark Cards, create an imbalance favouring players willing to spend real money rather than grind for items. The online economy has inflated significantly, and earning cash through missions or businesses can feel repetitive and boring, especially in regards to the recent Money Fronts DLC. Some encounters in free roam have also become frustrating due to overpowered vehicles, weapons in the hands of tryhard players.

Despite these issues, GTA Online still has its redeeming qualities. You can still unlock everything without spending real money, it just requires effort. Rockstar’s updates and 2x Cash & RP promos also help keep the experience fresh. For those who enjoy social chaos, emergent gameplay, and collaborative missions, there is still a lot to enjoy.

Overall, GTA V Enhanced is a strong experience for both newcomers and longtime fans. The single-player campaign remains the same, and the online component is enjoyable if expectations are managed. Nostalgia, the story, and the freedom of Los Santos continue to bring me back, even if some of Rockstar's money grabbing choices and online balancing issues dampen the experience.
