Whilst the game may be considered boring by many in the beginning, that is also a part of it's quality. You feel how you progress and become better and stronger, defeating boss after boss. The mid- to late game fighting mechanics feel very satisfying, and there's a lot of different "routes" you can take in the means of fighting. There are 4 main types. Melee, Ranged, Magic and Summoner. These classes give the game a good form of "replayability", where playing the game as a warrior feels very different from a ranger, creating "4 different games" in a sense. There is also a large amount of content, and you "feel" a clear line of progress throughout the playthrough.

I may add an important detail. If you want to give this game a shot, just know, it'll get a LOT more fun in hardmode, and especially post-plantera, so giving up before Wall of flesh, will make the game seem a lot more boring than it is.
