I think this is still the best Civ game if you want a long campaign. I still play Civ V for a casual afternoon playthrough, or Civ Vi if I want the game to break after turn 200. Civ IV with the overhaul mods (my favorite is Caveman2Cosmos) is an experience. Watching my little tribe of cavemen going from learning to eat bugs and to eventually escaping thephysicaal limits of reality is a journey.
