TLDR: Plot is half good, half bad. It disappoints. Gameplay is very good, characters and roleplaying too. I recommend playing with the bag of gifts mod.

The game is fun, but it has a couple of problems. The overarching plot is garbage and does not fit in the game. The whole game you are a regular guy building a kingdom and in the end a God appears because he's literally petty, no other reason . There are too many points in the game where you have literally nothing to do and you have to click "skip day" like 30 times. The performance of the game isn't that good, but it runs on any new-ish laptop.

On the bright side, I enjoyed the early game and the regular stuff is quite good (in terms of plot). The companions are very well written and I liked the enemy variety. It's easy to roleplay, you always get many options to choose.

I am giving the recommend in case you need an rpg, but I suggest Wrath before this one (same studio, improved system)

I just completed the game at 100% (I played offline so not all my hours got counted on Steam, it took around 40 hours) and while I recommend the game, the ending is one of the biggest fumbles I remember. It´s really awful, lazy writing.

Without spoilers, there are two endings, the default one and the "true ending". The default ending is extremely rushed (think final boss battle, 5 lines of dialogue, then credits). The "true" one is unlocked after getting all the collectibles in the game (huh) and while it does change some things, it´s even worse!! Part of that ending is a literal paradox that makes no sense, the writing is extremely cringy too (tbh all of the writing regarding a certain character is very cringe, power of friendship is in the game).

However, the game is beutiful and you have a great time up until the end. The writing is very sloppy tho, even before that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ending. The combat is way too easy too. There is an "easy" mode with relics, but you don´t find the "hard mode relic" until almost the end of the game... The protagonists have 0 personality, they´re perfect heroes, period. Other party members have more depth to them (not Garl tho, he´s just the best friend ever and has the power of friendship by his side).

The game tries to be adult and a kid-game at the same time and the dissonance is strong at certain points. I wish they didn´t fumble with the writing of characters and some plot points (like the ending) because it could´ve been a 9-10/10 game, but for me right now it sits at a 6. I don´t know if I´m looking forward to the DLC or a future game, because the last 10 minutes are some of the worst experiences I´ve had in gaming. The final boss is waaaaay too easy and the real final fight is the arcade game of the aliens coming to earth (ship shooting at incoming dots that damage you). [\spoiler] The devs also put many inmersion-breaking jokes (a character is literally one of the devs) and while some are funny, most are not. I´ll stop my rant, just don´t have too many hopes towards the end of the game

Right now the game is unplayable in Windows 11. The game is hella old, so it is understandable but still a bummer. I played it in Windows 10 just fine. So, if you have Windows 10, go for it. If you are on W11 already, maybe it won´t be compatible, but it works for other people.

I love the game. You are a group of mercenaries and need to eat+pay wages after x time. The gameplay loop opens up once you have enough money and food to travel without coming back to the city every day to collect bounties etc. You can even buy goods in one city and sell them for profits in the next one.

Scaling can be choosed to be level-scaled or region locked. I prefer the region locked (enemies have a set level and don't become stronger as you progress).

Very good game, good story and nice gameplay. Wish I had a better laptop to play the third game lol

Hard if you don't know the mechanics but very easy to master and cheese. Graphics are very appealing and I love that you get to buy stuff between games to make everything easier.

The chosen are OP and I LOVE it. Makes the game way more challenging and fun. A must have if you already have the base game.

Good game. It is more a puzzle/cheese than an action game. The story is good. Definitely worth the 3€ it costs now lol
