The Hundred Years' War was not actually a single continuous war but a series of conflicts between England and France lasting from 1337 to 1453, spanning multiple generations of rulers and soldiers. It began largely over disputes about rightful claims to the French throne, with English kings asserting inheritance rights through royal bloodlines. One of the most remarkable aspects of the war was how it transformed medieval warfare, especially through the effective use of the English longbow, which allowed relatively small English forces to defeat much larger French armies in battles like Crécy and Agincourt. The conflict also saw the rise of Joan of Arc, a peasant girl who claimed divine guidance and inspired French troops to key victories before being captured and executed. By the end, France emerged more unified and powerful, while England lost most of its continental territories.
