Literally the greatest JRPG of all time in Suikoden II. And the first Suikoden is almost nearly as good on its own, but enhances your experience with II on top of it.

So many good memories are flooding back. I'm really impressed not only with the new higher-quality character models, but the fact that they went through and reanimated them so they look like they're partaking in the conversation rather than just staring blankly.

And it's good to see Lance Reddick once again. Man, I miss him. RIP, good sir.

Enjoyed this more than I expected, especially so since I loved the Suikoden series so much. Other than regular enemies being fairly unbalanced (at any random battle throughout the game, 2-3 of your characters are at a risk of dying in 2 hits, so you need to budget carrying a ton of restorative items), the game feels like a natural continuation of what we were presented with in Suikoden II.

A true masterpiece. There was absolutely nothing in this game that did not resonate with me... My heart still hurts from the story and music, and I'm tearing up just thinking about it. I joke that it's ruined all other games for me, but there's some truth to it; I really don't think I'll find another game ever that could make me feel the way this did.

Absolutely perfect 10/10.

Was pleasantly surprised by this game and loved it all the way through. Tons of side quests, but at no point did it feel taxing. The gameplay loop was simple, but addicting. Wish there were more games like it, to be honest. Definitely recommend.

I really wanted to like this game. Humor is on point and it's definitely hilarious, practically the same as Rick and Morty... but it's just not enough. It's insanely shallow and repetitive, so I found myself struggling to want to keep going after the 4th boss. Glad I didn't pay full price (snagged in a Humble Bundle).

I want to recommend this because it's one of my all-time favorite games, but this version is plagued with crash issues. I was able to muster through the majority of them, but now that I've reached Esthar on disc 3, I can't seem to make it through the city without it crashing no matter what I do, so I guess that's it for my adventure for now.

If you want an idea of how much I struggled with crashes, check this: Steam says I have played it for 41.7 hours so far. The in-game save clock says 31:31, and there's no way I spent more than an hour total reloading for RNG / card reasons.

Play ANY other version except this one!

FOLLOW UP: I bought a Steam Deck and decided to try it once more on that rather than a PC, and I'll be damned, it has run amazingly without any issues on the Steam Deck, so I'm actually finishing the game. Though it still hasn't changed my mind regarding this review; not like everyone can just drop their PC for a while to buy a Steam Deck just to complete this game. All I know is that because of this, it's likely either a Windows issue in general, Windows 11 issue specifically, or AMD Windows driver issue. Who knows...

My personal GOTY for 2022. Everything about it felt just right and special. The soundtrack, however, was above and beyond what I expected; I was completely blown away by it. I strongly recommend the game!
