Eh, the game's alright for me, not to say it's not horrible, but for the low price of 19 cents when I bought it, it really does worth around 19 cents. Maybe if it's 1 cent more, I'd heavily consider it but for what it is, it's a pretty 'playable' game to say the least. There's not much fun factor though, but I really want to know just how many levels this game has and I've only reached 31 so far before I get really... REALLY bored.

Then again, I've played worse games before, at least this game has umm... 'decent' music. No seriously, I mean the somewhat funky music that plays all the time is bad, sure, but the electric guitar theme, I can listen to it all day! Buy this game for the electric guitar music if you need a very concrete reason on why you should buy this! It's music04 on the game folder; it's worth it in my opinion.

This game was probably the first strategy game I've ever played and I remembered that I used to be good at this game.

However, this game hasn't aged that well for one simple thing: a pause button. With almost 15 years since I last played this, RTS strategy games have moved on to implement this simple feature. It's like playing old shooters without automatic healing, arguably it makes everything less challenging, but for an RTS, it makes micromanaging a bit of a living hell as you are restricted to one playstyle and that is rush everything!

Regardless of that fact though, it's still a very solid game with countless of hours of gameplay and it's one other reliable timesink for all of you who seem to think you have unlimited time on Earth. Just expect a very simple mechanics that is probably geared towards war more than economy or diplomacy. If you're looking to micromanage huge Empires, there are other games that have done it better since then in many ways such as Civilization series, Paradox games such as Europa Universalis and Victoria II, or the Total War series. Age of Empires II is probably very limited to strictly nostalgia or multiplayer games in today's plentiful RTS games.

I've played this game through blood, sweat, and tears. It's like being stuck in a relationship, sometimes I really hate this game because of its very awful bugs ever since all the numerous DLCs and patches broke the game and I have to relearn how to play it all over again. On several lucky occassions, I might actually have a playable game, well no, the game has always been playable but there's always a game-breaking bug with every DLC/Patch cycle that some people recommend holding off buying the new DLC until patch fixes all of the annoyance. But then once everything's fixed, you're having a great time with it, then suddenly, new DLC!

I recommend this game because if you take some time to relax, grab a mod or two, maybe rollback on patches and DLC as well, you will get a very well-crafted game that could last for hours on end to an almost 'ruining your life' degree. I said 'almost' because the game has a point where you will get tired of it but you will keep coming back to it maybe 6 months later and find all the shiny new DLC already out and find yourself playing a new game altogether. It's a good investment, and once the DLC cycle ends, whenever it will be, that will be when the game can get its full potential unlocked with the modding community not having to do this 'race against patch' system they've been doing ever since this game came out.
