I loathe that song. I don't own the rights to the guitar or the vocals in that song anyways, it's a remix. Only part that's mine is the synths. In any caseI really don't think that sort of formulaic pop music would work at all.

This might work a little better, it's more atmospheric. Probably want to turn down the volume on most of these atmospheric tracks, I generally normalize to +-0 dB. Gotta have that signal/noise ratio.

Cool, cool. There's apparently a scriping engine for sound built into source; I definitely could see some cool things being done with that. Maybe like filtering the sounds when you pass from interior to exterior, so it sounds like you're in a vaccum.

What exactly are you thinking in terms of dynamic effects?

Oh, and I forgot to add; I made a couple more atmospheric sort of background atmospheres that could work for the starting air lock, or as the sounds of the space suit or whatever.

Definitely. You'll have to fill me in about the details of what you can do in source as far as sound generators are concerned; that idea about dynamic FX is surely something that could add a lot of charachter(sp?) to the game.

Like look at Portal, they use sound there to great effect for both atmosphere and reward; and it's a lot event-based. Anyways I added you, probably better to converse over steam IM or skype or something to hash out all the detals.

Ah, OK. I don't have a ton of background in dubstep(at least the brostep/skrillex stuff); would more downtempo music work? Most of my work is influenced more by jazz and gospel, so it's more of a somber-type vibe. But you're going for a bleak sort of dystopian vibe, yes?

Huh, I was thinking about this as more of a minimalistic physics/mechanics-based game; sort of like Osmos, propeling youself by shooting. I think the whole Borderland asthetic might look a little cheesy if you don't have a bunch of modelers/texture artists dedicated to it.

In my experience, indie games that try to emulate AAA titles just don't measure up. They've got 100s(thousands?) of full time employees, and indie devs just have a few people; so you just end up with something that looks bad. Just my 2c.

If you're not talking about making borderlands in space, disregard everything I just said. The whole cel-shaded and angular asthetic tottaly could work, especially if you're going balls deep on it and just making it look insane.

Anyways, I definitely can produce some sparse and bleak soundscapes a la Mass Effect for background ambience. For the gun sounds, are you thinking of more lasery retro sounds, or a more contemporary asthetic? And as far as theme/menu songs, are you thinking more along the lines of dance music or film music?
