Programming, where do I learn it, and where did you?
Hi!
I am 15 years old and love to program, the only problem is that I know how it works and basics, like structure and things like that. But I do not know how to learn to make games, I have watched many tutorials on YouTube to learn how to make games, but it usually just turns into me becoming a copy machine and then making changes that I like. I would like to learn how to come up with engines and stuff like that on my own, not just copy everyone else.
The people that make the tutorials must have learnt to program somewhere, and I want that too, i don' want to learn from just tutorials.
So if you could tell me where you learned to program and how I can to the same.

Oh and one more thing, I think that books could be an idea, and I have the "Killer Game Programming in Java" by Andrew Davison, but I don't know how I should go about learning from it, should I just read through it like a textbook and copy what he writes, or could I use it as a resource to find thing I need help with, kind of like I use google?

Thanks,
-Lima

If you know the basics of programming, then I would suggest you to just try and experiment with your skillset on your own. I also had some issues getting into larger projects, and the idea is to start small and go big with projects that you made up and are invested in. I don't like working of off tutorials too much because they are rarely of any intrest. Just try to build something. That's all there is to it.
