You people really need to stop posting absolute nonsense about how what he did was right and so on. VALVe lied about the drops being random but in all reality who cares, if you don't know the time of the drops the fact that you get the golden wrench makes it entirely random so technically it is a half lie in a way.
The fact that he did this is a good thing, it exposed some lies and so on but he knew exactly what would happen if he went through with it and guess what he did and is now suffering the consequences for his reckless actions, just leave it at that.

Playing games should be fun. In order to ensure the best possible online multiplayer experience, Valve developed a state-of-the-art anti-cheat system that automatically detects and permanently bans any player using cheats or hacks on a VAC secured server. What this means to you as a player is that you don't have to worry about annoying cheaters getting an unfair advantage and disrupting your game.
1) don't read the comments and pretend they did, while they obviously didn't (else they wouldn't throw again the same ♥♥♥♥ over and over)
2) Consider an item with NO EXTRA STAT or ADVANTAGE being "won" (by whatever means) as AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE OVER OTHER PLAYERS
3) Still can't see that the problem is not what DF did, but how Valve reacted after he showed people that valve was, once again, LYING to players
(pretending the drop is random when they actually decided WHEN it would drop, it's not called Random but "winning instants"... Valve might not be aware but there are strong regulations in europe about those claims) and what Valve did prior to the whole ban thing... (doing a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ event like this, knowing it may only stir troubles among the community)
if valve did things right 1st, none of this would've happened.
Nobody would have complained about a tool that allowed you to turn all the selected weapon into metal in a blink...
Valve's much more at fault than DF.
Honestly, I didn't join this group specifically because I want DF unbanned, but rather because I want Valve to acknowledge that the path they're taking by banning him is the way to the dark side.
Good luck fighting a lost cause.
^^
and therefore require all the "lucky ones" to delete theirs, just so the message goes up to valve about this kind of things... Of course, not everybody would be fair then and delete is "holy f-ing golden wrench"just for the sake of making all their buddies able to get it... hence the reason some ppl are probably gonna place ban on GW holders...
Valve should have made MORE of those (like 1000/10K handcrafted, with unique numbers, GW for the lucky ones), AND allow the gain of one through achievements, with no number, or just your name on it.
Luckers could still show off, everyone would still be able to get their hands on it sooner or later, and no discrimination would happen
[for the TL;DR] Vac ban is unapplicable for such petty thing anyway, they just singled him out (and the other guy) for pointing to everyone the apparent lack of work motivation/good ideas this week at valve's.
[The End]
Personally, I think I'd get my profile private (2) and somehow ask for a profile ID change (1) to valve because of the constant harassment that cursed wrench brought me.
Yes, it is a curse, for those 100 players, to have those wrenches. Either for the harass, the constant "sell me your account" things and account hijack attempts, but also on the player/server side... being banned from all servers just cause they can get your steamID so easily because they know YOU got that wrench... either you dont use it, or you accept the fact of playing only on your OWN server.
"wait, why would they be banned by all serverops!?"
Oh, just the same reason ppl are being m0ronz about DF, jealousy. or simply the fact that many people think that tombola was a very BAD idea to begin with, and should have been a reward for something like having all achievements or such, [next]
not that you are guaranteed, with only 100 of them, to have someone making a correct video AND uploading it to youtube. DF is somewhat capable of this, as I guess you noticed when you whinners SPAMMED his own video comments... What better way to ensure that all the infos and videos get known than ensuring that this Community manager, Mod developper, site programmer <etc> gets one by providing him with those craft times ?
How would you guys know about the wrench else ? You'd had to :
1 - locate a player with a GW
2 - manage to rejoin him
3 - pray for him to be playing Engineer
4 - not having better use of the new melee weapon upcoming...
5 - Him wanting to show off after having done this for days already, not having got his new melee stuff(4), having still the taste of playing engy (3) with all the "nuubz"that floods onto whatever server he's in...

"OMG this guy had the toy I wanted in that happy meal right in front of me, just because he slipped in the queue before me cause his friend held his place in the line while he went to toilets...."
yeah, all the whiners out there calling for a ban and such... this is exactly how you look. Fighting over a plastic toy that comes along the thing you went there for... ♥♥♥♥♥♥ FOOD.
Now to the reason of that leak :
Could it be that Valve (or some part of it) wanted for any reason to ensure the items would have a proper advertising... You know, just like the car makers handling a few models over to mechanic sports journalists and such for them to test out and do a nice paper about it ?
Else what would WE, the commoners without australium-plated wrench, know about that item ?
[next...]
Now there is that thing about being given the dates and times of the "next golden wrench drop".
Either it IS mathematically found (could be, he was among those who found out the previous pattern for item drops, remember ?) or it is "leaked info". Such leaked info should be coming from somevalve employee.
Who is to blame here, the "kid" who plays with gasoline, or the one who just gave him the gas and a lighter/matchbox ?
imho, ANYONE who would have had this info would have used it for himself. Don't be hypocriticals, all he did was sharing to more ppl what he knew back then.
Sharing... You weren't there, You didn't know... just like me then, too bad, no GW for me (is it really bad ?)
Back to the object of the "crime" : a golden wrench. Wow ! Pow ! it can pow-turn pow-ppl into pow-australium ! and.... that's it. More lagging when you'll see it probably; strictly no use in game.

Ban is undeserved.
Removal of the wrench (for what we care) is optional.
So we have here someone who WAS responsible for a part of the idling process that turned some servers into zombies craving for drops... Whose fault ? Valve for ♥♥♥♥♥♥ rates ? or those guys for no patience ? Both.
Although I despise idlers, The simple rules reminders (tf2blog and update notes) should have been enough. Valve had time to fix those previous "exploits" (by setting up a weekly cap or such) so it isn't a problem anymore.
Past is Past, And I personnally dont give a damn about what he did or didn't do, unlike most whiners that believed they could win those golden wrench (100 GW guys, not enough for everyone, simple maths) and got somehow jealous of those who had it.
What is STILL counting, Is those thing he gave to the community, the sites and mods and all the rest.
Those are still pumping positive points for his karma...

YOU HAVE A BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN BAN
F00l said himself his ban was justified. A Valve employee leaked the times that a wrench becomes available, and he wrote a script to rapidally craft at that time so his request would be the first to the server and he would get a wrench.
If he had just used his insider info and ganked a golden wrench fair and square, I'd say good for him. But he just used a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ little script to automate it.
Read this if you really want to know that he scripted: http://www.cyborgmatt.com/sourceop.htm
