I like the idea of this group. For most of my guys, this season has been their first taste of comp play and they're having fun even though we're getting beat. I think its important to show newcomers to comp that not -every- team is full of egotistical ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ yelling scrub and n00b all the time... just most of them ;)

I've always felt that one of the biggest barriers to competitive play is that your average pubstar probably doesn't know how to use Ventrilo or IRC. Half the time I see gathers ruined by new players, it's because they either weren't in Vent or didn't understand how the gather process worked. Although mentoring sounds good, I really think that one of the biggest needs is for there to be a group of people willing to provide tech support; explain to someone how to install IRC and get Vent working. Another big need is for pubstars to know that there are people willing to step them through the process, so if you play on pubs at all, you might try to do some "recruiting" if you see players who might be good candidates.

I went ahead and registered an IRC channel, since I figured it would work out pretty well to have it almost be like tf2ringer. People could come in and either say they're a [blank] looking to mentor someone, or a team leader could come in and ask if anyone's available for a team lesson. It's at #tf2mentors.
