Thanks for the support legend, when you find the time please take a look at when this group was founded. Trading cards came out shortly after this group reached 5,000 members, and around that time this group stopped being maintained... so I guess you could say we all like the new system just as much as you do.

It's called trading cards, ***steam level***, and badges. Steam's version of points is so much better than that stupid stuff. Please think before you petition for something worse than what is in place.

capital idea! ive loved the xbox360 tricked out achievement section, ive always wanted steam to do so or atleast create a list of the games that u have achievement in. so that u could easily access your list of achievements to show off! if steam would do that man that awesome!oh btw i invited all 301 of me friends to this group i hope i helped to further this cause! cheers!

I really don't think this is a good idea. I mean, the gamer points system is really redundant, because if you acheive something, it's one acheivement, not to be lumped in with all the others in a great big "points" category. Also, the system favours people who buy more games.

Just do it like Xbox's PSN's system is really just to awkward.

I really like this idea. I like showing off the amount of gamerpoints I have on xbox live becuase it makes my e-pen0r feel bigger.

I don't really like achievements; I find they ruin immersion in games. However, if we have achievements, we might as well make the best of it, and gain boasting rights with Gamer Points or the steam equivalent.

I personally hate the PSN system, as it is inaccurate when it comes to evaluating someone's total accomplishments.

It should be like Uplay points if possible. Players should be able to actually unlock some sort of content with the achievement points. There can be 2 systems: Points from achievements for content, and then the traditional bragging rights achievement points system.

Darman, I think the appeal in it for most people is that it becomes somewhat of a collective overview of your general achievements. It has nothing to do with getting free games, but there are many who enjoy having that overall rating. Of course there are going to be some people who exploit it, but that doesn't equal the whole thing falling into shambles. I mean it's not like some kind of world championship we are talking about here, just a small extra feature. But having that said, it's really a matter of taste I recon.

We're forgetting how easily cheatable many of the achievments are on PC.
Also, googled 'gamer points', found this:
"Gamer points are for showing off your gaming skills to your buddies and rubbing it in their face. A common similarity or mix-up some people find is Gamer points and Microsoft Points, with Microsoft points you buy things off the Xbox live marketplace. Therefore, Gamer points are useless."

As for 'showing off', or bragging rights if you will, isn't that what the achivements are there for anyway?
If it's just congregating, I'd rather brag about how and what I've done, not how many points it's worth.

It's funny, because I was talking about achievements with my cousin yesterday, and he says he like Xbox 360 achievements better than Steam achievements because the Xbox 360 gives you gamerscore. I think he'd be interested in this group...

I think you would be awarded points based on how many achievements you have, and/or how hard the achievements were to get. After that, most of it is just bragging rights, but some people mentioned using the gamer points to unlock downloadable content or something silly like that. I'm only in it for the bragging rights, but anything on top of that is just an added bonus :D

if we do succeed how would the gamer points thing work, how would you get points and what would you use them for because im all for the petition
