Yeah it turned out I got suddenly sick the day after I posted that, so I decided to postpone that until a later date.

Pretty much in short. Copy the objects folder from State Of Decay into the Game folder into Cryengine. Load it up, and follow this: http://freesdk.crydev.net/display/SDKDOC2/Placing+and+Modifying+Objects

(I would recommend giving a very good general look of the whole sandbox manual, as it applies to mostly everything in CryEngine modding or otherwise)

Some will have their textures and materials already pre-applied, others may need the textures folder.

If you're new to how everything works and want to get into modding State of Decay (or any other CryEngine game) then I'll explain some basic stuff here.

The engine version they're using is 3.3.8, some files reference that version number.


CryEngine has 2 folders (Game and Engine)

Game is for assets, scripts, sounds.
Engine is for graphics variables and shaders (but shaders are not editable)

Inside of Game, you'll find numerous .pak archives and a levels folder.

Each .pak archive can be extracted, and be left extracted for editing. If you make a change to the file and open up the game, changes will be made. The Engine will load .paks first, then softly overwrite with folders.


Textures in the CryEngine are either one of two things, .tif or .dds.

.tif represents the source file, it is the original quality before it's processed by the rc.exe (which is not included with SoD)

.dds is a common texture file. Some textures use the alpha channel as either transparency or glow (self-illum)

You'll need to get Adobe Photoshop for the CryTif plugin (which I'll explain later)

UI and Resolution support is a big thing. I guess proper mouse support is one as well.

Hello everyone. For the past 2 days I've been digging around in the configs making various tweaks to all the of low,medium,high,ultra specs and I feel like I've hit the point where I can release it and it would be a benefit for all.


It changes around a lot of the default SoD graphics variables to make them more suitable for PC. Low spec will serve as a graphics minimum where Ultra will be the "all-in".

*Low spec has been respec'd and designed for lower-end PC. It disables shadows, edgeaa and SSAO. It makes the textures run at quarter of the full res and various other tweaks.

*Medium has been given half res textures.

*Fixed the character ghosting aura thing. SSAO was the culprit and I'll be using SSDO from now on.

*Bloom tweaks so it's not completely insane at night.
