controller setups, will you share your control methods?
Specifically I have a control method I am interested in, and made one of. It's a 4 joystick gamepad.

I would like to try and figure out what everyone is up to for space-sim control, since I appear to have no idea.

I have heard of the spacemouse by now, but as with any setup, if you use one, I would like to hear more about it. I probably will one day buy a space-mouse.

I don't think I will buy a two flight-stick combo. That can always change, but for now I don't see how it's better than my 4 joystick controller, and also it doesn't add any extra functionality, since it requires both hands, and I can put any amount of buttons on a diy controller.

very specifically, my intent is discussing gameplay that is "inertial thrust physics", and more specifically, "manual inertial thrust physics", which is the term I am going to use to describe turning the automatic vector correction system, which may go by any number of terms such as "inertial dampers", "automatic", "float - off", etc. So, if the craft automatically matches a velocity OR/and bearing, that is outside of my intended gameplay. That does not mean your control setup is not what I intend to discuss,, but if you generally use auto-vectoring then I want to know about it, because that has an impact on the way that you actually input to the game. (so, you may not ever use your "strafe" thrusters, because you rely on the ship to merely match your vector to your orientation).

If you use a button to toggle strafe and roll, or any other combination, that's interesting to me, and I would like to know if you wish it were easier to just have all 6dof on a control.

if you use a keyboard and mouse, I consider this to be the superior input method,,,, from a certain point of view. (it doesn't really make for a pleasant experience with REAL machines, because you either lose precision or need to rely on sacrificed rates,,, but since a keyboard is actually reasonably intuitive, and is basically available on all platforms and at the lowest cost (it's automatically part of any computer),,, then using it is naturally a default best option.

finally: disclaimer: yes I do fully intend this discussion to be for me to discuss my own 4 joystick controller, and I am honestly a bit biased towards it,, but I do expect that anyone who has been playing with a setup to be also biased towards it,, and I would really hope for fiery rather than mute,, because over time I will really want the most information about every favorite method, even if someone might say it could be toned down,, I want the fire, because heat is where the passion is.

i always use x on the keyboard for descent and space for assent. I am dead firm on those 2 bindings, q and e should roll as well

so you play the mouse for pitch and yaw. what games do you specifically play with this config?? for example, Elite Dangerous really rolls and pitches for turns, the game doesn't allow for yaw to be your primary turn,, so having the mouse roll would probably be easier for most. Have you played orbital racer? what about thrust and shoot? I would probably say those two games are the closest to my intended opportunity.

i turn yaw off so mouse only turns left and right
