Shouldn't be too far away hopefully! If you check -current branch, the aaa_elflibs package was recently bumped to version 14.2. Usually means a release is due soon when that happens.

Well, I do not want to make any ad or promises... But since I seing an ad about EU4 (and about how good it is supposed to run on Slack) when I browse this group; I feel compelled to you PDS and GS fans, if you have an issue with Slack and PDX games, let me know and i will try to fast forward it O;)

Ha! I saw that a while back actually. I think someone plays a little too much Counter Strike... That is not a spam ad, it's a deep and insightful look at CS:GO. Personally, I'm more of a DiGiorno gamer, but to each his own.

I noticed Slackware gamers haven't curated any games :-(

So I did one for Hammerwatch because it does run really well and is amazing. I will probably curate CS:GO if no one else does since my avatar has attracted attention there from a few Arch and SuSe players.

14.1, updated - Dota 2 crashing on Start Tutorial/Game.

Installed libtxc_dxtn, and forced s3tc in terminal. made sure to get the 32bit.

Also got the audio drivers.

Intel HD Graphics, Inpiron 1545.

Have you guys checked out Painkiller yet? This ought to be the best running port I experienced yet. At least on my shoddy AMD card. 50 fps upwards all the time with max settings.

@camelCase, I run a bunch of lInux native games of various sorts (when real life allows!), with nvidia proprietary blob (GTX 660) and have not noticed a need for anything extra. s3tc is built into Nvidia's driver.

Thus, for maximum performance on Linux, don't fool arround with F/OSS drivers (yet), go Nvidia.

What libraries should I install for maximum performance?

I know libtxc_dxtn (http://slackbuilds.org/repository/14.1/libraries/libtxc_dxtn/) is required/helpful for a lot of games. Any others I should know about?

Unfortunately, I need to pay through the stuff I already bought before I can lay out more cash for more games (esp . Linux-based) here - not to mention all the classics I never had the time, money or system to play from GOG.com . Responsible adulthood. So may games, so little time. One more thing to add to the to-do list for retitrement!

@KingBeowulf: Well, apart from Doom (which I played when I was a kid) I have zero FPS medals (I am more of a D&D RPG fan)... I'm having much better luck with Half-Life though, so at least I'm young enough for that one :o)

@kabamaru I hear ya. I've been playing FPS games since Wolfenstein 3D and I've noticed I suck now at many of the newer games. Mind wanders, hands cramp...getting old I guess.

@alves_67: You are going to need to force your system to use Nvidia and not use the Intel GPU. Either via BIOS, of if your's has a hardware switch. Then use the Nvdia proprietary blob. You can try Bumblebee if your system uses Optimus.

Hey KingBeowulf, I had a problem like yours, just install mesa from alien packages and reinstall your video driver, that solved my problem with Trine 2 asking for openal.so

I have received a message: "GL driver does not support EXT_texture_compression_s3tc".
My notebook has a hybrid graphics card (Intel x NVidia). Anyone know how to solve it?

Bingo. In the Half-life GAMEROOT libMiles.so is linked to /usr/lib/openal.so.1 .

Sounds pretty archaic to need the Miles Sound System, which, IIRC is just openal under Linux.

I can't see how Slackware64-stable multilib with Xfce-4.10 would be any different than your setup - after all setup is via your steam and mulilib etc instructions. Running from Steam nothing happens except hl.sh and hl_linux show up as running precesses. Running just hl.sh complains about openal; hl.sh seems to just add GAMEROOT to LD_LIBRARY_PATH but can't find openal present in ...Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu

Besides that, shouldn't HL use libSDL which is present in GAMEROOT?

I do not have a compat32 version of the OpenAL package installed here, and yet Half-Life plays without any issue whatsoever. Also running Slackware64-current with multilib, and KDE 4.10.1 as the DE.

mmmmm.. It appears that after wiping out the 32-bit compat32 packages that I didn't need according to Alien Bob, Half-Life would not run without /usr/lib/openal.so.1 even when Steam has one available. Anyone else experiance this (slackware64 multilib)?
