Hey @xKomachi sorry lately I don't have much time to be active on steam... so I didn't even join discussion about future of group nor did give promised feedback on some titles...

...so...should I stay semi-dead or leave your group? It's up to you, I know that there are people who don't like zombies in group. Up to you, you are the leader.

Cheers! :legitimacy:

@Megillot
That was an interesting review! Thanks! I know you don't recommend it but it actually made me all the more curious about it, since I usually love unfeeling characters. x)
Mind creating a discussion and reposting that here?
And here's my review: link .

Be warned - I love spoilers.
And the main spoiler for the review itself - it says "not recommended". But please don't hate me. I don't think WEE is a bad game, just not good enough to keep me interested in further episodes :butterfly:

And when I said that dashed neck shadows reminds of an amateur work, I had in mind Fetish [i893.photobucket.com], featured in one of spotlights.

@Sinetry
Feel welcome to. Spice and wold is a different title,and you not being interested in economics doesn't mean you're barred from expressing your opinion about it.
Finished reading World End Economica episode 1 yesterday. Some people here are interested in it so I wonder if I should write a review.
However I may not be the best person for this task because I never read/watched Spice and Wolf and not interested in economics or trading in the slightest.
Phelan 2014
@xKomachi
After all I bought it the same day I asked the question, but thx anyway :) But frankly speaking I didn't have time to check it... sadly too much work :(
@Sinetry
As for translation - I read both and they really are different although it's the same story. I don't remember the names or who did what - I think it was agilis who did a translation that gaps between english and japanese and haelth(I hope I'm spelling those right) that did a full conversion to english. Anyways,I preferred the translation that tried to preserve the japanese meanings while still being readable english,but that's up to you - try reading a few minutes into the story with each translation and see what fits you better.
@Sinetry
I personally actually recommend to start with the original,and voiced. Narcissu 2nd,while not relying on references to the original Narcissu to make things clear and being perfectly playable without even reading it,gets a strong boost if you did read it before as it shares some characters that knowing the future of changes a bit how you may look at situations presented or make your identification with them stronger. As for the voice acting,despite being very minimalistic ,I think it turned out superb and somehow it manages strengthen some of the character's personality points.
xKomachi,
Speaking about Narcissu, Steam version is kinda confusing when it comes to actually start reading. There are two novels to choose from - Narcissu and Narcissu Side 2nd, three translation options (alright, two translation options and original Japanese) and choice between voiced and unvoiced version. Extensive translator notes helps understand a difference between translations, but they also encourage reading Side 2nd first, and even unvoiced for some reason.
I would prefer reading main story first and not a spinoff, even if it is a prequel - will I really lose something if I start with original Narcissu?
#3. Oh wow. Tell me that was just a nightmare and not an actual comic? I have to say I feel pretty much the same way as you do about derivative stories - especially since companies always seem to employ different authors - a few titles being the exception that confirms the rule, of course. I've come to prefer fan fictions when it comes to those, but it's hard to find quality work and more often than not they're left unfinished as interest wanes, especially if the franchise's not consistently updated or wasn't set up to support that kind of content from the start. On the other hand, there have come out some pretty successful original series in the past years set in the gaming world (the novel versions of 1/2 Prince and Legend of the Moonlight Sculptor are amongst my favourite) and since the genre seems to be gaining momentum we're probably(hopefully) going to see some more nice videogames set in fictional videogames soon, which is something I'm very much looking forward to :D.
@Caffeine 7
3/3 Last,you have those which just went out of the way. Most often those are done by people who simply purchased the rights to a series,or developers that changed and the personality they pour into the game is different. If the game was a big success,some big company might have bought it and made a sequel. You had a heartbreaking plot about some disabled kid facing hardships through his life? Well that's great,but that's not what we believe that sales. So you know what? We take this poor kid who can't even get out of his bed and into his wheelchair alone and have some aliens give him superpowers and watch him fight to protect the universe he loves(even though in the original plot he hates everyone but his mom and sister). So while that may be a great action comic that does feature the same kid as a protagonist,it's just so much out of the original universe anyone who remotely appreciated the game is likely to act like this. xKomachi
@Caffeine 7
Then there are the perfects,which beautifully explain things you never noticed about the game's universe,go into character's backstories and explain why they acted like they did. They take what made this game great and instead simply of trying replicate it they twist it and put it somewhere else. If you're going to read Narcissu,this is what hopefully you'll feel like when reading Narcissu 2. In heart,the element that made Narcissu so great is still there,but it's done in a way so different you don't notice it until it hits you. There are few of those but they are incredibly satisfying to read. 2/3
@Caffeine 7
Well,I feel this is a really case-by-case basis that I tend to split into 4 main types:

First is those which are nothing but cash milkers,relying on the success of the game to sell things that try to be 'game in comic/book/movie/whatever form'. Not only they fail to enhance the game but also fail to convey what the game already succeeded in,resulting it a rather poor experience.
Some others are just not particularly notable; They don't break anything and nothing about them screams bad,but they lack what made the specific game so great in the first place. Those often include some sub-stories to deepen the game's universe and character depth,or make some scenes more pleasing,but it's still something only fans of the game could enjoy really be happy reading. Kind of like if you get a 'unreleased soundtracks' bonus at a game's extra section after you finish it? It's cool but nothing more. 1/3
Blue Rose: mmm, I guess I'll wait for it to get on Steam. There are way too many games battling for my attention right now anyway. |D;

Narcissu: Ah, that's great :D. I've admittedly read very few VNs since the last time I tried (quite a few years ago) I could find almost nothing but japanese ones, so I stuck to normal novels and fanfictions - and VNs kind of fell off my radar. At least my ignorance means I have a lot of titles to look forward to, I suppose! Offtopic: what do you think about book and comic series about games?
@Phelan/Caffeine 7
Unfortunately I've never heard of Blue Rose before and as the romance genre doesn't particularly interest me I'm not going to try it unless it goes free or I finish my backlog,but it's worth noting that it has a demo [www.the-white-cat.com] available you can try and see for yourself. It also won a place in VNs now's best of 2013 list [www.vnsnow.com] which,although I don't really agree with, usually hints that a particular visual novel is at least of average quality. Emphasis on usually,but it's still a point going for it. I'd say pick it up if you like romance and there's at least 2 other games you feel have a good chance to be good.
@Caffeine7
Narcissu migt have earned itself a place in the list of classic visual novels by now. It's one of the greatest visual novels I've ever read,so I can wholeheartedly recommended it (though I have no idea about how the steam release itself is going).
I was wondering the same thing as you Phelan ><. And I don't know if any of you are already familiar with it but I've just stumbled upon an interesting-looking free visual novel on Steam. I've yet to give it a try myself since I've literally found it 30 seconds ago, but I thought I'd leave you guys the link: Narcissu
