Sorry I've been away lately guys. I had to do some PC/software maintenance and as difficult as it may be to believe it actually took me over 2 days to get it all finished.

So, is there currently an admin in game or will there be one soon? I have been somewhat marooned on Ares and I hopped out of my ship to mine an asteroid and my ship decided to slingshot itself into the bottom of a lava pool... Not sure if anyone can help with this, but I have been running into a series of little glitches that have now left me in a very difficult position.

I fixed it, it seemed that the primary game file crashed. When this happens, the server stays on and tries to recover the crashed file over and over, but it can't do so without a restart. So the server never throws an error and it doesn't close the connections and reboot. So it just trolls everyone until someone starts it or until it eventually, and I'm guessing here, catches fire and burns the building down.

We actually do full well intend to start our own server. At least one of our group has extensive experience in such things, and is as we speak putting the server together in our basement. That's not the point though. I wanted to see for myself if you were a reasonable person whom we could work with, by talking with you, telling you my problems, and seeing how you responded.

I have no intention of playing on the server where the time put into the game can be so easily invalidated by an admin's whim. That is not playing Cops and Robbers, that's playing Gods and Ants.

Thing is: You're not playing cops & robbers. You're playing gods & robbers. Obviously not very fun for the robbers in that case. This is why I offered to try and talk out a better method of managing that aspect of the server before you ran off to shut it down entirely.

You're lucky The Reach is even there; after the way your faction treated me I shut the server down with NO intention of starting it back up again. However, because more and more people reached out to me and asked me to start it back up, I did: for them. If you're willing to continue participation in the server, I will come in very breifly and reassign your stuff back to you.

As well as all of the ships within and surrounding it.

Your base was NOT seized so you are very misinformed. It was being inspected...for more information on that see the discussion thread titled, "TEC Inspection."

Authorized maybe, but it doesn't make any sense to SEIZE CONTROL OF THE BASE CORE, which was highly defended and hidden. Robbers are allowed to fight back against the cops, in the cops and robbers game. You denied us that.

As quoted by the Contraband section of this very group:

"...all TEC agents are authorized to randomly track, temporarily detain, and search any vehicle(s), person(s) or base(s) suspected of smuggling, handling, or trading illegal contraband."

It is PART of the role play functionality of the "cops and robbers" overall theme present here in The Reach. I'm sorry your faction did not understand that or read the damn manual as I've asked everyone to do 1000 times. This rule and variations of it are cited 3 different times in various locations on this group.

I loved the reach. My faction did not ♥♥♥♥♥ at you for no reason. Your admins teleported into the Rawr Fleet [RAR] base, and changed the core to TEC control, with no warning, and no option to fight back. When my faction complained about this, they were banned. My faction collectively put HUNDREDS of hours into that base. We were roleplaying smugglers, largely underground on a pvp world (Atlantis, in the south).

We complained because the admins took control of all of our assets, without giving us any opritunity to retaliate or defend ourselves. That's not roleplaying, that's abuse of server administarive power, and mismanaging. The RAR faction will never return here.

Actually, I won't delete that post because I'm NOT a dictating admin. You voiced your opinion and did so very professionally: thank you for that. However, if you look through the group's forums and subforums you'll see lore and literature regarding the TEC and our abilities to "inspect" bases/ships for the server's "contraband and narcotics." It's part of the role play functionality of this server; if that's not your thing I understand that and that's cool. Join a free reign server and have fun that way. However this is no longer an argument that will be pursued or given attention aside from your comment and my rebuttal.

The admins for this group are outrageous.
As they use server administration to 'rule' over the populace. They will invade your base without warning and use server commands to screw you over if you don't obey them, no matter where you locate yourself.
I don't recommend joining the server. They'll probably delete this soon, but to whom ever sees this heed my advice.

Machine crash

I wanted to stop and let you players know that I have reached a point in my health where I can no longer devote the effort and energy necessary to remain a moderator and in-game problem solver. I am on disability for a reason, and the effort the player base should have is more than I can supply without ending up in a hospital. I'm just a guy that logs in to volunteer and give to the community, taking up opportunities to pay back wherever I can. However, in my decades of volunteer work there is always a time where I have to step back and focus on my own life and priorities.

This is not the first time this has happened helping the server establish itself, nor in any other volunteer position I have taken up. I also have my not insigificant writing projects to return to, which insanely enough has a fan base and I owe it to them to return to my own work.

I have asked Wally to fill in for me for the Theseus Event. Everything is set up and outlined, I just cannot oversee it myself. As for the wipe, I have done all I can. Please shut down weapons and park major CV's in Mythos space, minor CV's (small class 3 or below) around the jump entry area heading to Oscutune (the jump in-point), and SV's on Ares and Hades. Please leave HV's behind as you can. Each playfield has a 200 core limit and can result in corruption of files. Anything each player can do to alieveate the core strain on a playfield is appreciated, both now and in the future for delaying future wipes as long as possible.

Sunday 21st. Today NFO (the server hosting company we use) put up a notice that the Dallas area was being hit with indescriminate DDOS attacks. This is what is causing lag and difficulties in playing today. It is severe enough they posted that INTERNAP is being taken down for the time being. So server performance is suffering atm. I recommend taking a break and coming back when things cool down.

The server is both pve and pvp depending on the areas you're in. I've not heard any significant reports of resource shortages honestly. The market helps with that I imagine.

Also, i just came back after a long break. how are resource respawns in multiplayer?

Oh yeah, I know lol. It also changed a LOT about the PDA and increased its functionality so a new PDA design is definitely in the works. You can still reinstall the 2.0 PDA, it's still very much applicable to The Reach. Thank you so much for the concern though!

Just wanted to add that the update to 3.0 broke the custom PDA. I know you are busy getting the server updated. Just thought I would mention it so it could get added to the pile.

Hey guys, just so it is known, it is NOT permitted to take over or claim any of the public entity bases like the orbital trading hubs around Akua and Omicron. Those are community property to be used for trading and such.

Hey everyone, I've just been made aware that the server is down. I can't do anything while I'm at work, but Feanor should be able to help with stuff like this during the daytime hours. If not I'll fix it this evening.

Well, that's all I can give for the day; man's gotta sleep some time I suppose. Hopefully I'll be able to finish and wrap up the PDA tomorrow and post the new version up on Nexus. Until tomorrow guys; later!

Well guys, it's been a long week/night. So, I'm going to call it finished until tomorrow when I pick the work back up. Zombie, I understand your frustrations and I'm willing to ease them as well during the new startup. However, you should also know that many of the problems we had I feel is because of the server's hosting machine. It's not a very powerful machine and to be completely honest, I had NO idea that The Reach was going to do so well at any point. The new server service promises a much more powerful machine with much more dedicated resources such as internet and power. So, these issues you've faced along with many of the other ones that everyone else has faced should be cut down drastically.

Lets see since the last fresh world i had my survival constructor (which had the vast amount of mats in for my cv) and work lights stolen out of my base(found a hole i missed) my sv was stolen (lost more mats i was gathering to replace the first mats stolen) so now i have to rebuild a new sv so i can start gathering the mats for my cv which mught take a few months with how busy i am right now.

Thanks. Was going to recommend something like that when I had a chance to step away from researching for my writing. I know we all have RL stuff that is a much higher priority than just maintaining video game assets, so I appreciate that. I know I can't let anything disrupt my creative process once I start working, which is further limited by medical issues. One of the drawbacks of having long stretches of downtime is the intense uptime hours when I can actually be productive. Hell, I barely make meals for myself in those phases ;)

Well, if that's the case my friend we'll take the abandonment maintenance entirely in house and not let the server so it at all. I'll make some adjustments to the dedicated file when I get home in a couple of hours. Don't worry, we'll get this fixed!

This ain't no disco here buddy, I care about my gamers and I fix ♥♥♥♥ that's broken, not make it worse.

I log in at least once a day, even if it is only for a minute or two. However, I don't think the system recognizes abandoned builds the way we think it does. My next door neighbor parked his ships near mine the first 2 days of the server and never logged back in. I stashed supplies and tended the garden on my carrier on a regular basis. Even powered it on and flew it once afterward. I think I didn't visit the ship for 3 days max, but I didn't get in the cockpit often. Yet they both despawned at the same time. My G-75 despawned two days later, and that one was barely touched and created a couple of days before the carrier was. I haven't even checked the public shelters I've put down. If we have to climb in every single thing I build, I'm going to be swamped just trying to keep public service stuff from despawning.

How long has it been since you've logged in Andy? Because the server shouldn't remove anything in less than five days which is the default value I do believe. This is the first time that I have ever run a full server on an alpha build. I'm learning just as much about what wields and doesn't as anyone else. I do appreciate everyone that plays on the server, but I don't when there's a problem until it's likely deemed as a "breaking problem," in most cases.

So, I appreciate the struggles many are having with the server but I must ask everyone to please be patient and understand that I will do everything that I possibly can to make this server the server everyone can enjoy gaming on. Things are a little complicated with me starting this new job and such. So please be patient and just realize that every game has growing pains and the control that I and Xerith have is very limited.

Well, lost another ship to not being well enough to log in and play. That does not include the supplies or preparation items stored on each ship for in-game "emergencies." That is now over 85% of the effort I put in since this server opened up. Never had such problems on the previous server except when it was wiped. No, I am not interested in having mats spawned in. I am interested in efforts not being wasted when I need to focus elsewhere or get sick. What happens when I need to take two or three weeks off and grind on my own projects? Boom. I get to start over. Again. And again. I am very tired of this and with my medical crap, I don't have a lot of effort to invest only for it to be wasted. I have my own things to put that effort into.

It's back up...looks like Windows did an automatic update + restart on my computer. Sorry guys, I was AFK via out to dinner .

Server IS indeed up again! Storm has passed and I've loaded it all back up.=) We are considering other ideas for server hosting such as 3rd Party hosting services, personal backup servers, self sustaining power supplies, and so forth. It's all about what we can afford and what time we have. Currently, the server is being supplied by a seperate, dedicated, personal computer.

A severe storm damaged a local communications node in the server's area and has just now been brought back online. Not much could be done other than to wait for the ISP company to repair the problem. It should be corrected now.
